I took my yellow lab as a puppy, hid antlers, and when we walked into the wind and she found them, I praised her like all get out and gave her a piece of bacon... when you say the word antler now, she goes crazy looking for them. It was that easy for me. She's 3 now, an antler finding machine.

Most pet stores and Farm & Homes sell antler chunks as dog chews, give them one on occasion and they will love you forever and love looking for them.

whatever you do when you start them off use a rubber antler or they might poke their mouth and if that happens they associate antlers with pain and they will never be a good shed dog.
The rifle has no will of its own it may be used for evil but there are more good men than evil men and evil will be corrected by good men with rifles.

I had my lab trained for sheds and pheasants by a trainer. She never really got into the antler finding and I did continue to work her. I do quite a bit and she was in the woods with me and absolutely loved being there with my son and I. Often she'd run back and forth checking on the two of us. Even though that didn't work out just having her get the exercise was worth it. She was a beast on the pheasant though, miss her everyday!
