Got my first black one yesterday, small one but cool! I am at 8 now for 1 week. Not much moving around on the river yet.

I almost never catch the red brown type. That would be very different here.

That is the 4th out of this colony. Water is crystal clear now and the dam hasn't been touched. I will give it a few days and move on. It was trapped last fall by another guy and he got 4. Never heard if he got any black ones. The biggest I got was 54# male

Flood water finally cooperated enough to get to a few sets after work. Wasn’t expecting what I got lol. Gotta dry em and a late night tomorrow I guess. Maybe scratch out a couple more by Friday. But if this is it, I’m content!

Those are nice looking beaver mud. NF, good to see you still at it.
I braved the elements (strong pacific storm front) and set up one of the coastal lakes I haven't hit for several years. Dang near whitecaps on the lake...not fun, plus driving rain all day. Managed to get in 12 sets but there's not the beaver population I had hoped for. Our season ends in four days and sure would like to catch another 50. Don't look like it will happen.
Would have preferred to work the river closer to home but its rising fast right now with all the rain...can't set it up under current conditions.

Mud, late night in the shop it is. Nice catch
NF, your guys are getting some big beaver now. That's awesome
BP, your population of beaver even when low would be fantastic for my parts. Go get em' , As I'm sure you will do well. Hopefully 50 more for you...that's usually a season for me. lol
I've picked up a few more this week. Nothing big but beaver none the less. Got 11 more on the boards now. Not sure if they'll be headed to FHA or a local buyer. Hoping to catch about 6 more if I can find a spot or two. Then going to wrap it up for the season. Sold 24 beaver and 8 skunks at Hinsdale auction this week. Will have results posted once I get the check in the mail. That makes 41 sold for the season so far. Sent them with another trapper and spent the weekend with Miss Aalaiya and picked up three beaver with her. Going driving around and to look for spots to trap tomorrow and hopefully knock on some doors and get a permission or two. I have one old spot in mind but not sure if any beaver are there this year. Have a good evening everyone

NF, yes it does it was just extended to that a couple years ago. Before that I believe it ended with muskrat and mink Feb 15th . It's been a little hectic for me. My parents are quite old now and I have been helping them more than usual. Dad had one surgery on the 8th and has another on the 18th. Mom has Alzheimer's and was just in the hospital with chest pains. Will need to spend more time with them coming up after Dad's surgery as they will need my assistance more. Depending how Dad feels I've decided I better pull whatever traps I have and be around more for Mom and Dad. Luckily they only live about 7 miles away. Tree came down yesterday after a strong wind storm and took out power lines in my front yard. I'll wait for the yard to get a little harder (freeze or dry up) and have a lot of chainsawing and hauling to do. This is a ancient white pine that was almost 3 times as high as the house. Now it's only twice as high lol. Bounced off the power lines and me and the Mrs had quite a light show out the front picture window . missed the corner of the house by 10 feet. Also missed an apple tree and a bee box by inches. I'm thankful there wasn't much property damage

Glad you escaped major damage Dale. I lost my mother to Alzheimer’s about 20 years ago. Kudos to you for looking out for them. It sure is a tough row to hoe.

Well... Back to trapping, picked up three today. The small one was unbelievably well furred. Have only two sets out now. Both in previously trapped spots. Beaver should be wandering around so you never know. Couldn't get any new permissions but had a nice morning drive.

If I keep on having catch percentages like today I might just get my 50 beaver I wanted to catch before season’s over with. 11 beaver out of 12 traps. Not much size to them compared to the river beaver I catch but the fur is nicer. Got another lake set up today with another 12 traps.

NF, beautiful country there. Maybe when people look at that they can see that NY isn't NYC BP, nice load of beaver you got. Those otter are looking more like Muds every time! Now if you could lay them out on a clean white drop cloth before skinning you'd have it down to a tee ETex, wow that's something. You ever get a warmed up gator eat one on ya?
