I just picked up some body grips and want to rustoleum dip the,. The question is not about the mixture but I de-greased them today. Do I wait for a light coat of rust to form or go ahead and dip them?

guys do them both ways. If new steel(unrusted)they tend to take a few coats. I use flat black spray paint mostly.

I dip them with no rust. The next year I power wash them and dip again. After that it's minor touch up with a spray can in up coming years. That's how I do it now

Scuffing the surface with a Scoth-brite or coarse steel wool is twice as effective as rust.
