Looked like one to me. I was going to take care of it with my pistol but it got caught in the current and shot through the break. Couldn't find it after that. Guess I should have taken care of it first then got a picture!

Good day to celebrate! After several months I have finally caught my nemesis! Caught the female last fall but couldn't catch the mate. Tried on and off all winter and spring. Low water, steep banks, springs and an over helpful LO who would unintentionally mess up my sets by removing brush and cleaning up the creek. Bank dens where virtually impossible to locate. Wacky weather would cause things to freeze over one day only to thaw the next making snares or footholds impractical to use. To really add to the mix, this guy was square shy so yesterday I ordered a few RBG's to add to my arsenal only to discover him in a foothold this morning. LO kept removing the dam even after I requested him not to but the beaver would rebuild it within a few days. Set two MB750's on a length of chain since the water was too shallow for a drowning set. Caught him by the back leg in about 5" of water.

Way to get that last one 20scout

NF, BP. You guys are nice enough to show what you get for your fur at auction. Ive sold to two buyers this year then sent 24 beaver 8 skunks and two rats to the Hinsdale NY auction with a friend. Here are my results [Linked Image]
The six that went for $19-$20 were smalls. The rest were adult beaver. 4% commission for members

Today’s catch
Fleshed one otter and five beaver tonight , Gerry boarded three. Another hunting club called that borders the one we are trapping, says he has a couple of colonies and would like them all out of there if we can.

NF, I feel I got good prices. Wish I would have sent more.
You guys are tearing it up. That's awesome the other hunting club called. Some nice looking critters there. Sure wish I had more places like those
Don't know of any hunting clubs anywhere around me. What are these hunting clubs for? Deer, ducks, rabbits and such? They hunt on their lands or just target shoot? All clubs around here are just glorified gin mills for people to get together and chew the fat and drink and eat. Mostly Polish clubs or veteran oriented.

Those look like great numbers to me Dale! When you say small beavers do you mean that literally or would they make 45" to 50"? Or mediums or LM's?

Dale, these clubs are white tailed deer hunters. I’ve been trapping them quite a while. Dad and I trapped one of the clubs in 1979.
BP, 33f here now, perfect weather to trap beaver.

These coastal beavers are sure nicer than the ones in the big river close to home. Kind of long haired silky ones.

Of course you New Yorkers are used to great quality beaver.

BP, the largest of those six was 47" and had a extra leg hole in the back where I got a little wild with the fleshing knife one night. Don't remember all the sizes but two were the smallest of the year. I was very happy with the prices.
That's a fine looking beaver you have there. Your right I've been catching some of my best furred beaver the last few weeks.
70° is way to warm for my liking. We just got done with our last heat wave and we're back to 20° to 40° most of the next 5 days.

NF, that's cool you still trap that club you did with your Dad since 1979

Dale I haven’t trapped it continuously, I’ve been back up there for the last 10-12 years.

Funny you mentioned that. I hadn’t gotten to one of my last spots this year until the last week where I sampled the last week last season and knew there were beaver there. Just like last year the first couple I caught were big but horrible fur. Then the last couple days I got 5 more I think and they were all beautiful. It was odd to me.

It will be very interesting to see what beaver do later this week in North Bay. I’m hoping it shows a still strong beaver market.

Nice prices especially $19-20 on smalls! BP I’m hoping those prices hold for the June sale! My luck I’ll be too late lol
