I mark every trap site when I'm trapping the city parks. So far I've only lost 4 colony traps. But when they lowered the water levels to flush the lagoons I recovered 3 of them.
Why would a trapper place any trap In close vicinity of public use areas. That's just irresponsible on the trappers part.

Animal rights organizations are out to destroy more than just the rights of hunting and trapping. They will lie cheat and steal, then put the blame on us. That trap in the picture isn't hurting that dog, the jaws are closed and just placed on it. I remember when sickle bar mowers were in common use for making hay. The farmers dog was always following the farmer around. They would run in front of the mower, and get their leg cut off . Back then almost every farm had at least one three legged dog. The animal rights organizations would take pictures of them and claim it was caused by the dog chewing it's leg off because it was caught in a trap. They're a very sick deceitful bunch of hate everything anti's! They cause more division and hate than anyone.

To bad about the dog but don't most states require dogs to be leashed when in state parks, I know around here except when on private land dogs must be leashed and under the control of the owners, not that they are

It looks like the trap was place over the dog after it had been removed from the trap. It looks like one of the trap jaws had been damaged during removal. Its possible that this incident was staged, but I think its more likely it happened than not. Rather than getting lost in the issue of real or fake, we as a trapping community should try and learn from this or Wisconsin will end up like several states that only allow body grip traps in enclosures or totally submerged. The dog probably should have been leashed, but it sounds to me like if it occurred like alleged, better judgement should have been used by the trapper.

nor is the fur wet or has been wet
it certainly looks staged
the fear mongering is real unfortunately and we have to break the tale of lies every chance we get and we don't get a mass media platform to do it.
I was doing a raccoon removal for a friends mom who is 80 her house is across the road and down a peice from the farm. she has been married to a farmer most of her life , grew up on a farm , was telling me her husband used to shoot the raccoons and sell them in the round to the fur buyer back when they got married. She even used to live trap racoons herself when they got in her bird feeders.
I set some DPs 15-20 yards from her coop of hens. just off into the field edge in tall grass so that the catch circles wouldn't mess up the lawn. I found out when I was out there checking traps she was afraid to walk in the back yard even though I had marked all the traps. so I took her to one and showed her no way she gets caught , nothing to worry about I kicked the trap a few times then pulled it out of the ground and showed her the trigger was way down in there that you couldn't even reach it with normal people fingers. but keep your fingers out of there. then showed her how it holds like a handcuff on a coon paw. now she is completely cool with it. I also showed her each trap site and how there is no way she would walk on them.
but the movies had her thinking it was like a bear trap with spikes that would break her leg if she stepped on the lawn. that is the kind of miss information we are dealing with drilled into people by the media
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Since this thread seems to be allowed I'll comment on it. Here is more info dog was taken home and the trap cut off with a saws all. Also the picnic area is far from any town, so dog could have dried on the long drive. Sad for all involved. Think it'd be hard to catch a dog in a legal 330 set in Wisconsin. I'd assume either illegal set originally or water fluctuations made it so. Not enough information for me to make a judgment call. Also dog off leash but that's probably vwry common in that area. I'll I can say is I feel like this will be used to attack trappers and nothing good ever comes from bad judgment on either side. My question is, why didn't they take a picture of the trap still on the dog? Why cut it off and then put it back like they did?

Devils advocate... stress of losing a pet, just wanted the trap off. Then thought to take a picture.

That picture will make its way to some PETA ad. I feel bad for the guy if it actually happened, but leash your dog and be extra cautious during open trapping season. As long as the trap was legally set, the trapper did nothing wrong.
