I need some boots or shoes to wear to funerals , church now and then , and occasionally to dinner with the wife


Kinda leaning towards some snake skins , had a pair about 30 yrs ago


Anybody have any suggestions on brand , toe , and heal ?


I ain't no cowboy so I have limited knowledge on this subject , just looking for something less boring than regular churchy type shoes

I'm probably one of three guys in Maine who wear cowboy boots. Not for the faint of heart in these parts. Brown is my color, black boots don't work for me.

Posco , how bout the heal ? Is a lower heal more comfortable- easier to walk ?

For sure. I like a straight heel as opposed to the slant heel. Just a personal preference.

Well anything in real snake skin, ostrich, etc is gonna set ya back considerably more than imitation. I'd say it all depends on how much you want to spend or are comfortable spending on a pair of boots that it sounds like you might wear every so often. There have been some good brands listed but a couple are also overpriced I think. I have several different brands, but I see you are asking about heel and comfort. My most comfortable pair is made by Ariat. Quality brand that won't set ya back as much as some of those others, but definitely way better than bottom of the barrel. I don't think the height of the sole matters so much (at least not for me) but more of the composition. Those Ariats I have have a heal that they refer to as ATS (advanced torque stability). Obviously sounds a little gimmicky but they are more like a rubber heel and sole, although it looks just like my leather soles. It doesn't look like someone slapped a gym shoe sole on your boot. But man are they comfy and they will last. And another plus is they are quieter when you are walking on hard surfaces and better traction if it's wet/slippery out. I'm not sure if they have anything in the style you are looking at but I'd recommend them anyway. As far as the toe, last I was told, square is in. But who the heck cares if it makes you happy.

Really, the person to ask about cowboy boots would be Savell. I think they're required by law to wear cowboy boots down there. Full brim hats too.
