I heard at the last OTC sale that thee was a buyer anxious to buy some boomer pelts. (Mountain beaver). Kind of a relative to pikas.

When Lewis & Clark showed up at the mouth of the Columbia they met the Chinook tribal chief Concomly who was sporting a mountain beaver cloak. He considered it one of his most prized possessions.

I caught a big female last week that was the last in the colony in a dam on a spring creek that stayed partially open this past winter. When I combed her I noticed she had started to shed, and on the board you can see some black on the leather. I think she had been out some all winter. The rest of the colony was in good shape.

I noticed the blue spots too. Most often (in my experience) those are rubs on the hips areas where a beaver has a root, rock or limb protruding a little bit at a den entrance and scores the hip or sides a little bit every time they go past. You can see those even fairly early in the season but especially towards the end.

NF Thumbs healing up good.Thanks. Was a little sore carrying out that biggest beaver this morning. Saw a bear the day before not 50 yards from where I caught that beaver. Only knee deep water so I was a little apprehensive about setting there. Guess I got the beaver before he did. Love that set up with the pine over the coni. That's a nice picture of the beaver and the remake
Looks like Beaverman has a little salt on his truck
Ole' Wyatt is tearing them up! That's awesome! Would like to see a picture of that muskrat tail

When I hunted spring bear commercially back in the 90's I targeted them while spring (open water) beaver trapping. I had places to trap beaver where bear likes to graze the new grass on the trails.I would walk in to set beaver traps, then rough skin the catch and leave the carcasses on the edge of a clearing. I collected quite a few nice prime bearhides(and meat) while trapping beaver. We still have open quota on bear here on our lines.
