Every few years or so I have to go skinny dipping after a hung up beaver. More often than that I have to swim fully clothed and with chest waders on after a runaway boat. My life vest (which I always wear) helps keep too much water entering the waders.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Years ago some guy thought it would be smart to tackle a guy that could not swim off of a party barge it took us 4 days to find the body. As stupid as that was I can’t imagine how the guy felt about it then or still does today.

I am a trained lifeguard. Haven't done the job for years. Biggest thing they teach you about rescue is how to subdue the person your saving. Otherwise they WILL drown you in the process. They are in full panic mode and want to crawl on top of you. Only ever had to make one truly lifesaving rescue. I thank the God Lord I never had to make more and I was trained properly.

I graduated Boot camp without learning to swim. I'm a rock and I'm not afraid of the water or easily panicked
One of my favorite things all my life has been to wade chin deep in the river and catch small mouth bass, it's quite a view. I've held my breath every time I go to deep and walk to shallow water.
I don't like to go boating though.

I can swim but I cannot float. Just like wolfie I sink like a rock. Had every one and their brother or sister tell me they can teach me to float. Never works.

I am negatively buoyant also. Looked up why people can't float. Several articles suggested very dense bones. I will say I have never broken a bone.

Either way, TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO SWIM!!!!

I can't imagine ever going near the water if I didn't know how to swim. That's just crazy.

I took lessons at starting at four or five-years-old. Joined the swim team, went to many matches, earned the mile-swim merit badge in scouts, ect.

Knowing how to swim probably saved my life when I capsized a canoe trying to use it as an ice-breaker in a pond that had froze over before I could get my traps out. I went in over my head but was able to swim to the surface once before my waders filled up. Then I did what Boco does and walked the bottom to shallow water.

That's about the coldest I've ever been though.

Eh...wot?

That is a close call for sure. I was camping with two friends in a paddle in site. next morning was 25+ mph wind. we had to paddle against it. in the middle of the lagoon my buddy almost tipped us over. I had him sit on the floor for the rest of the trip. we side lined the wind and walked the last 2 miles. The moment the water was about to spill in the canoe first thought was I hope they can swim, cuz I wont be able to help them.

I water swatted a duck in an side eddy in the river, total slack water. It made one circle just out of reach of my stick and hung up in the middle, whre it would stay indefinatley. So I stripped down to my chonies and swam out there and got it. Air temp was 37 degrees, the water felt alright at first. got the bird and made the dash back. Got out and wiped off the water. I was red as a lobster and steaming like one too. If the bird had been another 30 yards out I wouldnt have tried it.
