Unseasonably warm weather in Iowa. A customer had a groundhog wonder through their yard (sent me a video), set up a couple locations around the house, but nothing yet. Is it still hit or miss this early? And I'm sure this varies depending on your location, but what's typically a good timeframe when they are out consistently?

I have seen several Ghogs a couple of times already. Some crossing the road in from of me, others out in the fields while driving. Snow is gone here, and have had some rain off and on. Temps in the 20's and 40's at night but warming to the mid 40 - 50 range at mid day.

I saw a couple fresh road kills today.

It is about time for the groundhog rut to start so it is not unusual to see some moving about for the next six weeks or so. By the end of the rut, they are foraging on the new tender spring growth.

Nothing here yet. Skunks are moving, but I don’t think calls have been coming in yet. People probably aren’t noticing the tracks without the snow.

My 13 year old caught his 2nd of the year so far yesterday. Had it in a 1.5 cs front foot caught. Was a dirt hole set by the bees trying to get rid of coon and skunk around the hives. He put his set right in the trail and guessing it acted as a blind trail set for a ghog for the 2nd time in in a different location.

Haven't seen any yet on my property. They are my main nuisance target.

I caught my first one yesterday. It wasn't intentional. Trapping coon around a rural home and caught him in a 220 meant for coon...but they're out.

Caught two females already. Owner saw them digging out holes and gave me a call.
