What permethrin are you using for clothes, the Sawyers, who claims theirs is specially formulated for clothing, or regular permethrin you spray for premises and other pest use?
If you used both did one work better than the other? I always figured permethrin is permethrin, Thanks

I use a product called Insectrin X. Same stuff they use on cattle rub. 1/4 ounce to 28 ounces of water and spray your clothes down, let dry, and wear. About $10 or $12 for an 8 ounce bottle. Same amount of permethin as Sawyers and cheaper.
I spray clothes a couple days before turkey season and don't have to treat again till fall.

I'm no expert. I do field trials with my dogs and am in the woods a lot with my dogs. I tend to give them a oral Like Nex Guard once a month but I also use spray on them (just a normal concentrate for cattle in a yellow bottle). while at a field trials I was spraying down one of my dogs and a friend that happens to be a retired vet asked what I was spraying. I told her what it was and she immediately put her arms out and stood for me to spray her also. After a short conversation she said that there wasn't anything in there that would hurt you. Since then I have dedicated a pair of pants, chaps and long sleeve shirt that I keep coated and usually do not have any ticks that are ever attached. Like I said I am not an expert on this subject but this is what I do.

I buy the 38% permethrin from a pest control place and mix it with water in a garden sprayer so the solution contains one half of one percent permethrin. That is the same percentage as the pre-mixed products. I get my hunting clothes good and damp with the spray and either dry them on a clothesline or in a clothes dryer. The permethrin bonds to the fabric as it dries and will still be effective after several washings.

I've been using Sawyer's for years. It works extremely well and one treatment last a long time.

I use Credelio, a prescription chewable, on my dogs. It also works very well.

Eh...wot?

The Sawyer spray is water based. You can find water based concentrate at a farm store (including Tractor Supply) and mix your own for a lot less expense than buying the Sawyer bottles. Just pay attention to the concentration so your mix is right. Avoid the oil based.

Country vet
or whatever the farm store has for washing cattle

if it sticks to cattle hair and dog hair it seems to work on cloths fine.

if you get the 13.3% the mixing is as easy a math as it gets ounce a gallon a quart makes 33 gallons

you just mix it like your spraying down dogs and kennels.

if you get the 10% you need like a ounce 1/3 a gallon

most of them tell you in the label instructions to make it easy on 1 , 8 or 33 gallons mix for dog & cattle concentration.

If you own a calculator or a smart phone with a calculator app, its easy....

128 x .5% = .64 oz

The Sawyers I had was a 24 oz bottle of 0.5% permethrin. What I bought at the farm store was 10%, so 20 times as strong. I put 19 oz of water in the empty Sawyers bottle and added 1 oz of the 10% giving a total of 20 oz of 0.5% mix.

How to dilute concentrated permethrin.
If you choose to dilute a concentrated form of permethrin like Martin’s 10% Permethrin, you need to reduce it to the 0.5% concentration recommended for clothing treatment. Many concentrated Permethrin solutions come with a built-in measuring cup for this process.

I prefer bagging up the clothing I plan to treat with Permethrin in 1 gallon freezer bags before pouring the Permethrin solution over them and letting them sit and soak.

If you use a 10% Permethrin concentrate, you want to dilute it with 19 parts water and 1 part of 10% permethrin concentrate to produce a 0.5% Permethrin solution. For example, if you wanted to make a gallon (128 ounces) of a 0.5% Permethrin solution using water and a 10% Permethrin solution, you’d mix 6.4 ounces of 10% Permethrin solution with 121.6 ounces of water. If you do this using a 1-gallon plastic water bottle (shown above), you’d pour off 6.4 ounces of water and replace it with 6.4 ounces of the 10% Permethrin concentrate. Shake well to mix it up.

Good information. The key to toxicity is dosage level. More is not always better.

As we beekeepers say of treating for mites. How do you kill a bug on a bug without killing the bug?

Don't be the bug, please be careful mixing up the stuff to soak your clothes.
