CPI is basically inflation with several caveats due to the way its measured.

I think you are seeing a formatting glitch.

My GUESS is that the middle column is CPI and the third column is the price change in gold that year.

that would be fun if CPI was the third column

Shows that in most of the recent years dollars did not do as well as gold as far as value is concerned

While it is thought off as safe, sometimes it under performs.

Gold isn't supposed to perform. It's more of an indicator of that crazy times are coming.

Ok I got a question! You use the term “yields “. I hear that about bonds and CDs because you don’t touch them the grow. The 5000 in coins I put in a safe place had not multiplied. Same number as when I put it there.. Didn’t get a statement saying it earned x amount. Now if I sold them at today’s prices vs 2019 that would be profit. That is unless I sell private. One never knows maybe I bought private whistle

Or even better might have won a poker bet ? I know I inherited them lol

Jbyrd never seems to have questions. He is more of an answer guy.
Likely considered by some as the strong-jawed, ruggedly handsome type. KIndly like Larry the cable guy.

CPI is one of the most manipulated number out there.

It's going to get interesting.

Charles I suggest you stay away from precious metals. It's not for you.
