Got a call from a home owners association for a problem coyote with pups. Was going to go survey the area and set up some game cameras. They want them trapped alive.......didn't suggest the foot holds just yet. Looking to try a live trap. Any suggestions for trapping mom and pups? Sounds like they see them quite often. Should I try to search for the den? Should I cover the live trap with something? Never live traped a coyote.....let alone with pups. Are the pups old enough to fend for themselves by now? Sorry, so many questions.

Ok, before you take this job, you need a really good plan on how to go after these. Stay away from footholds. Pics of sad looking coyotes in a foothold and a catch circle in somebody’s front yard are going on nextdoor.com and Facebook within minutes of being seen. You don’t want that attention. The reaction will not be, “Wow, that guy is an awesome trapper!”

My next question is what do your laws say about what you need in order to trap on a property? Ours say landowner permission. HOA is not the landowner. Beware of Condo owners also. They own the unit, not the grounds. We get calls for bats in condos ever year. So, does your contract need to be with the HOA or the homeowners? Who is in charge of making that decision? Does the person you are speaking to have that authority? How do they plan on paying? Will it be net 30? GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!

There is a lot that can go wrong with this.

do you tell your machine what tools he can use to fix your car when its not working right ?? Most likely no, so why would you let the HOA tell you what tools you can use when trapping, your the professional

Pass on calls like this. Those folks are never happy and don't understand that they live in and around nature. Good denning areas will always be good for a reason. If you are lucky to find the den and harass its security, she most likely will move the pups to another area.

Those residents will never " not see" a coyote again.

My suggestion is to write up a plan for Harassing The Coyote and Pups out of the general area....no trapping.

I had a similar, with red foxes. Young ones getting close to houses and chasing cats. The guy owns 1.5 acres and H.OA. Owns detention basin where foxes are coming from. He said he wanted them live caught and released…. Told him the law in PA foxes, coons, skunks get put down not released elsewhere. I could smell the drama with that call and turned it down.
