0630 that bird was still roosted and sounding off, lol.

The manager attempted to find out and daddy was a jerk about it and hung up on him. A lot of calls were made before involving LEO’s. All that was wanted was an explanation and that it wouldn’t happen again. Hence the title of this thread…Just own up to your mistakes.

I've hunted and trapped this mountain range where we live since I finished military service back in the 70s. My then wife to be would run traplines with me up here during our college days. We're not so called carpet baggers. We usually have very little problem with big game hunters since we have a small property, but spring turkey hunters are the bane of our lives. This applies to both in and out of state hunters. Due to our aggressive habitat management specifically for turkeys we always have birds while the adjacent mis-managed National Forest doesn't. Guess where the turkey hunters want to hunt? No one has ever asked (although we give priority to neighbors and friends kids). We routinely have the state's150 yard prohibition against shooting near a building violated. We also have hunters jump the brand new posted fence and shoot birds in the middle of the day with us in the yard. Being older now, they usually can hide or simply out walk me to get away. We just had three so called turkey hunters shoot a bird 50 yards from our neighbors house with him taking pictures. Due to not getting a vehicle license number they were not apprehended. I have come to the conclusion after a long career in wildlife management and having been involved in private property owned by both us and family that hunting violations today are as common as traffic violations. Unfortunately the violators in both overwhelmingly get away with it. Another symptom of the increasing lack of common courtesy and basic respect for others in our society today.

Sounds terrible, but you do live in New Mexico. I've been to your state a couple times and I am not the least surprised at your observations.

The problem is too many people in one small area.
Like Europe, have to pay some landowner to hunt..

Gone are the days where you knew or were related to everyone that might cross a property line. I grew up in a community like that.

Then the strangers showed up. Most were good folks but some weren't, dopers growing dope or kids joyriding and tearing crap up. Then the lawyers got involved.

So everything is locked down tight.

Did you know that it can be used against you in court if you haven't actively attempted to prevent trespass if you're sued for injury? Shouldn't be but it is what it is.

BTW, just an observation but those with heartburn over property owners protecting their property aren't property owners and seem to think those that can should give to those that won't.

At least they are now being civil about it. About 50 years ago, local neighbor owned and hunted a developed duck lake. He was not somebody you wanted to cross. So day came when he went to his place only to find 3 city kids in his duck blind. Told them to leave, they got smart with him. Mood changed when he leveled his Browning auto on them.........was no longer asking, was telling and they were moments away from getting shot if they said another word. They left. Good think as he would have killed all three of them.

Bad part is there are still a few hotheads left. Tangle with the wrong sort and no telling what may happen to you. These young kids may not know this. Hope none of them find out the hard way.

I know of 2 people shot for less, you better be darn aware of property lines whether it's daylight or dark.

This isn't England with "right to roam" laws.

You did the right thing Wanna Be.

Think you missed the part where the piece of crap in question had chance to settle the matter amicably . He chose otherwise. A little humility on his part would've squashed the whole thing.

I own property on a private dead-end road. There are six other landowners in there with me. There are so many No Trespassing signs up it's ridiculous. You can't miss them but people still occasionally seem to think the signs don't apply to them, just the other guy. I have no patience for trespassers.

Let me see if I read it right The camera is on an opening ON A BOARDING PROPERTY? You got a camera watching some one else’s land ?

We’re they still there during your investigation? How did you know when they left or how long they where on your land

I don't have a problem with that at all. What gets me are the people who put up a posted sign right at their house with no other posted signs on their property.

Yeah...maybe nobody will trespass on your land and try to steal one of your cows or chickens. If they do, please be kind, understanding, and share with them.

If they actually kill one of your cows or chickens, don't bother your local Sheriff's Department as it's probably not an on-going problem...happened just this once, right?

Those folks may just be confused about whose land they were on and who spent time and money raising that cow or chickens.

Heck, they may have even thought it was OK for them to help themselves to your property because they read the nonsense you posted on this thread on Trapperman.

Only thing worse than a trespasser is one who gets caught red-handed doing it and acts like these fellers did.
However, is it wise to start a feud with the likes of them? The dad is a jerk. What kind of upbringing do you reckon he gave his two boys? You are now faced with spending the rest of your days watching your back.
What would I have done in a similar situation? I would have let those ole boys know, in no uncertain terms, that will be the last time that they will get away with stepping on said property, and let them guess what that means. That would have given you the upper hand.

Wow, y’all can sure read some stuff that ain’t there, lol.
I had the camera up because they clear cut across the property and right there is where the clearcut (there side) meets some thick smaller pines (there side) that have never been thinned. Now I was thinking if any predators are working that line onto our property that’ll be a place for some sets or when the wind is right (need a South wind) that I can set up a caller and do some thermal hunting on our side. Camera has only been up a week so no telling how long they’ve been coming on the property.
Good Lord at the folks defending trespassing.
I guess y’all would really be upset that the manager has cameras set up at every main entrance. And y’all will really get upset that every plantation around does the exact same thing. We have great relationship with the actual hunters on that property and felt no need for a camera there. When they shoot something that crosses the line, they give one of us a call to retrieve it. Heck we’ve even gone out to help. These guys didn’t belong even on the property they crossed from.
When you pay millions for a property and turn it into a wild bird plantation through many years of hard work and habitat management then maybe you’d feel a little different.

I’ll be curious to read about when someone breaks into your home and helps themselves to what you’ve paid for or breaks into a vehicle…how will y’all respond. Guessing you’ll just tell them to help themselves?

No sir, lol. Not worried at all and I’ll leave it at that.

Swamp Wolf, I've hunted since I was a little kid I'm 52 now so that's over 40 years. It has meant a lot to me and I've shot quite a few deer over the years. I hunt alone as I have no kids. The majority of my vacation time has been taken in October and November so I can be out bowhunting. To say it hasn't meant much to me isn't correct but that's your opinion and your entitled to it. I stand by my decision I won't pay thousands of dollars for the chance to shoot a deer because financially it's not worth it. I can go on more trips with my wife instead. I'll miss it if it comes to that but it's a big reason why hunter numbers are dropping in Wisconsin.

I've got a good place to hunt and have been on that property for the 40 plus years. I give the landowner a meat and cheese tray every year and with my current job I'm able to give them some other items that they can use as well that I can get from the company store. I watch over the land and let them know if I see something out of the ordinary. I've been called the warden down there by them because I've called them about someone being there that I didn't know. They got booted. Another time some unknown jerkwad cut the chain on one of the gates so they could joyride on their UTV. I secured the gate and let them know and they got a new chain on it,

I wish the Wisconsin DNR would let hunters put a treestand up and leave it for the season on public ground like Iowa does. Put your name and contact info on it and it's legal. Instead you have to remove your treestand or ground blind everyday so few people bother. The DNR here is about as backwards as you can get. I swear they're anti hunting.

Badger23 your absolutely right on how to handle situations but I will say this an outfitter trespassed and put a stand , camera and bait pile ( which is a big Nono here) on my cousins property he called the warden and since the outfitter had connections with the state’s attorney the charges were dropped so trespassing is just political bs in Illinois. My cousin wouldn’t even have cared except the outfitter charges dollars for deer killed on him and I’ll guarantee you that if the shoes were on the other foot the outfitter would have been squawking hard . I come from a family that believes in not being selfish when it comes to fishing and hunting on ground we own even though you can’t accommodate everyone. Yesterday evening a gentleman stopped and asked about turkey hunting on a farm down the road when the owner said to ask me first and I said go I’ll go elsewhere but I know that will be repaid ten fold for being kind and that’s the reason I can hunt or whatever on 25 thousand private acres around my house .
