Construction or the building trades? I have no experience in actual construction but, when I was in the facilities maintenance field, there were several plans to get women and minorities interested in the field. I worked with two women at different times. They were excellent at residential and appliances but almost scared of boilers, chillers and big roof top units.

I would have to disagree with you. I hired LOTS of women as fire fighters and they listened better than men and didn't have the ego that some men do.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I'm sure they could pack a 250 lb man out as easy and fast and as much hose in as a man though right?

In my opinion a women cop is a bad idea seeing that men are responsibly for the majority of violent crime.. but yet perhaps I'm in the wrong seeing we now have men dominating woman's sports. crazy

I’ll be the first to admit I wouldn’t want to do “man” work because I’m not strong enough. But I’m not incapable of learning. And I know many women who shine in these areas that I do not. I’ll stay in the kitchen lol

Well a boilermaker job is not made for a woman if she a welder that's a little different because she not doing anything that requires strength. I'm just saying it's not fair that a man has to carry her thought the job. There are alot of thing woman can do just not in the trades.

I have worked in industry with women and found generally they are competent good hard workers, can learn as much and as well as anybody. That said, there's plenty of them that are worthless, about the same ratio as men.

Sounds like Guss lost out on a promotion to a more qualified woman.

Are there some things that some women physically cannot do that many men can? Yes. There are also things that sissy men can't do either.

I've watched a 120lb soaking wet gal in her 40s pitch hundreds of bags of mulch into the backs of trucks by hand in the 95 degree Mississippi heat and humidity until the 18 year old boy she was working alongside stumbled to the ground and said he couldn't do it anymore. So she finished the job by herself.

I've had a few female apprentices through the years in the electrician trade. Some were pretty good and some were worthless. About the same ratio as men. Women seem to be better at tedious or detail work but fail when it comes to hard physical labor. Heat is harder on them.

Seems like they have different types of problems than men. Young men can't get to work on time because they got drunk last night or are having problems with their marriage.
Young women can't get to work on time because they had to get their kids situated or are having problems with their marriage.
Women are more fastidious; less likely to pick their nose or expel gas or curse and are generally quieter when working in finished spaces like hospitals, office buildings etc... Last girl apprentice I had was good. She made things go easier working in hospital wards. Head nurses liked her. Glad I retired.

No flippin good in my trade. Can’t do very much by themselves 60’ up on hooks, cause many problems with the coworkers too. Sask Power used to have a qualification the linemen had to do once a year. Tie in a 3 phase line off the stick with super stiff tie wire in a set amount of time. They had this to weed out the women, they had the same issues that we have here.

I think we should welcome women into our work forces. If not then we would need to rely on even more undocumented workers than we do now,

I’ve know quite a few women that could carry more than most men, and had just as much hand strength, now as far as boiler work most men can’t do it so I don’t hold it against women, but other work such as house building, machinist, welding, and equipment repair work there’s a lot they can do.

Most of my male clients cannot even assist getting their big dogs on the scale. They just stand there and watch you struggle

I don't think gender should have anything to do with it. I've know several women who could out work just about any man and would be happy to work alongside them. 30 years of working construction and I'll admit I didn't think women should be working construction until I had one out work me. She gain my respect and changed my mind in very short order. I've also worked with some guys who were absolulty worthless.

I've seen quite a few gals over the last few years on various construction projects, operating heavy equipment and driving quad axle trucks.
Never saw any problems with any of them. Highway and heavy construction is a lot more "civilized" than it used to be.

The only way I am getting a 250 lb man off a mountain alone is to field dress him and drag him down hill. I am just saying, some of the Idaho women are boot leather tough and can run circles around a LOT of men!
