Is it the kinda metal that gm gets or why so bad on rust? Just had shop rotate my tires an look something, they say pretty soon not go be able put hoist nomore sooner or later an frame go crack thru rust cracks bad on 1 side especially between gas tank an frame about a inch gap, between frame an tank, shop say they don't get into fix that an cost more then worth,, if could find someone do it, the gas tank would have be took off, an possibly lines, I call one weld shop an they say didn't know who get into that job, I wonder how expensive it be,just on front side of where leaf spring bolted on an most bad cracks are in gap between frame an fuel tank. Soft rot out rust an cracks, maybe should try trade in on another truck with lower miles

They all rust bad here. That new salt brine crud they use is worse than the rock salt they used to use. This^ Chevy, Ford etc. They all rust the same.

I agree with K snow. The salt brine is killer on vehicles, trailers, everything.
Moosetrot I've seen several studies that the brine has to be WIPED off to remove from a vehicle. You can't just spray it off like the old stuff. Coonman, no shop wants to touch that for liability reasons. Plus, you can't just weld the crack shut, you'd likely have to cut out a bunch of rot to get to metal worth welding too. At that point, drive the truck off a cliff and claim the insurance...

I ordered and did my own work, but didn't have to remove the gas tank. Fit like a glove over the top of the old frame. Customer service was excellent.

because anything post 2002 didn't come with any factory rust coatings
the Southern Auto dealers association sewed the big auto makers to stop so that it would save 3-400 on the price of a car
then they could make 3-400 more not changing anything for features
if you live in the north you then needed to pay 7-1100 to get rust protection added back post dealer.
of you did regular fluid film from before you got to this point it would stay nice and minimal rust
but you didn't so find a clean used one and get it coated and coat it every year
didn't take the manufacturers long to realized they were going to sell more cars and trucks also because stuff is rotting out in 10 years

That’s why I quit Chevy/gm, my 10 year old Tundra doesn’t have a spot of rust on it, and I live in northern NY where in winter the roads are all rock salt and brine. so what your saying is you got one right after the decade of major frame recalls where frames rusted so bad that they were replaced under warranty it was once again cheaper to put good quality rust inhibiting paint on the frame and body than to keep replacing frames under warranty. they can make them good it is if it is cheaper to make them bad or make them good they got burned so they made it better
