My neighbor has been breeding wolves (probably hybrid but look and sound like wolves) for the last few years. Apparently they escaped and he can't catch them and we now have a pack of 4 that have been seen numerous times in a 3 mile radius. I contacted the game warden but there's nothing he can do unless they attack livestock. I would like to see them gone since I have calves being born right now and would prefer not to lose one. The largest trap I have is a duke #3 with new music wire springs. Would that be a big enough trap to hold them or would it just give them an education?

It might hold them, depends how big they are. Helps if you use a shock spring IMO. If it was me and I couldnt get a bigger trap and had calves being born I would set them if legal. Would help with coyotes too.

They probably aren’t as strong as a wild wolf. Your traps will hold them.

Are they running around like some lost dogs? I can’t imagine them acting like Wolves much.

Why isn’t the pound out there trying to catch them?

Your best bet is to probably shoot on sight if the local dog catcher can’t catch them.

JP we don't have a pound or dog catcher in rural OK. So far the only shot I've had they were in another neighbor's pasture with his PBR bucking bulls. Really don't want to take a chance on hitting a bull that's worth 6 figures. Steve have raised cattle here for 50 years and never had a problem with yotes bothering them. Only problems have been when domestic dogs have started running in packs. That's why I'm worried about these. I'm 6' and would say they are waist high on me. My lab weighed 98 pounds at the vet last month and he would look like a poodle next to them.

The pound? That's cute.

Never heard of the pound? Probably why stray dogs are a problem down there.

The 'pound' dates back to the early 1900s when municipalities setup collection corrals and holding pens for stray, lost, and free roaming animals, where owners could retrieve their cattle and animals ... the first of what would become animal shelters. Shortly after municipalities created the position of 'dog catcher' to round up stay and unlicensed dogs and transport them to the <dog> pounds ... just not in cartoons. smile. The term is still used today, although "animal control officer" is the more common term today.

If legal in Oklahoma, snares seem like a good solution to the problem. How long have the wolves been running loose?

Has your neighbor been trying to recover his wolves?

If they’re wolves, considering where they fall in the ES list, didn’t the CO want to know where they came from and have a chat with the owner?
You’ve got 4 running free now, little bit of hanky panky, mixing with other stuff and you got yourselves a new subspecies of protected wolf to try and deal with…lol

Drags might help holding them, I would set heavy and try to get them all at once.

I wouldn't be talking about wolves in Ok. if I was a resident trapper there. Nothing good can come of it, loose lips sink ships.
