Anyone ever tried the tannery home kit from Lander Wyoming. It sounds like they were a huge tannery up until 2013 and now just sell home kits. The process is done on a sheet of plywood with a salt-acid paste and oiling step.
Thanks in advance for chiming in.

Not sure they were ever that big, but I thought they were still in operation. Not positive though. Of all the home tan options available, an alum tan would be last on my list. One of the synthetic tans will give you a far better and more stable product. Over time, alum tans tend to break down leaving a skin that will fall apart.

I did a gray fox back in 2009 using their kit. I’ll dig it out and see what kind of shape it’s in.

I get my tanning oil from them still. The “tanning crystals” I get from the local hardware store here. I like the alum tan because there’s no need to smoke them.

I didn't realize they were no longer open as a tannery. I knew a couple taxidermists who had used them, but they weren't using them when I knew them, not sure what they didn't like about them but they weren't their preferred tannery. (that may have had nothing to do with the tan)
