I was given a large can of peaches and have read on here they can make a good K9 attractant. My kids will likely eat the peaches, but the syrup in the can would have to be useful to make some sort of lure or addition to a bait. Wondering if anyone has done similar. What would anyone else do with this? I would guess it would make great coon lure too.

Just throwing this out there off the top of my head. If I was going to use something like that, I would start with trying to figure out how exactly I wanted it used. It could be used as a liquid attractant, thickened by itself to create a base, added to another base to thicken it, etc... Knowing what I am aiming my end product to look like helps set the stage for how I'm going to get there- backwards planning, if you will. Heck, if you are torn between two different ideas, split it in half and try both ideas. If I were trying to make a peach type base, I'd probably puree the peaches and then possibly add some of the juice from the can. If you get a little too runny, you can experiment with thickeners/emulsifiers until you find the product that gives you the consistency that you desire. If you were seeking a liquid product that you could use with a flip top bottle or maybe a Boston round, I'd maybe add more of the juice to the fruit puree and keep going until it's liquid. One concern I would have is holding the peach (or any fruit) at the desired state. When I made wine, I remember using potassium sorbate to stabilize the wine and inhibit the yeast from starting a new fermentation.

Sorry that I was all over the place with that but you got me thinking about how I would approach that.. and again- that's just off the cuff without any research. I'd be surprised if there wasn't something in the archives from someone with much more experience.

My experience with fruit stuff is it can increase the attraction sometimes as a secondary odor but doesn't have enough attraction by itself to be the base or to build a formulation around its odor for coyotes. Tested peaches and mulberries a fair amount.

All good points, the can is still sealed at this point so still just an idea. I am leaning toward a paste type of smear bait. Wondering if I should try to boil it down a little to reduce the water content to a thicker syrup too. I browsed the first 30 pages of this section of the forum, I can look for more specifics, most fellas start with fruit puree as you mentioned too, didn't see any mention of the sugary syrup left in the can.

Thanks for the link Ryan. It sounds like I'd be better of fermenting this stuff and drinking it rather than making lure, lol. I still may take half jar of an older bait here and juice it up. Maybe spray it on some fish food and let it dry in the sun for coon bait.

I would eat them. Give Bob Jameson a call and order his Peaches and cream Bait. He has take all the guess work out of it already. Its a fine bait for sure!

That would work if I was not trying to learn by doing. I have no doubt Bob has a formula that works, much respect, he surely has put in the work and deserves the credit. I might still try to make a quart of something, beats eating peaches from a tin can.
