Wanting to put an optic on my 870 slug barrel.

Saddle mount or have the receiver drilled/tapped?

It's a 3" chambered Express Magnum.

Do u mean the scope doesn't fit or u need a scope mount?

If it doesn't fit buy a dovetail to picatinny or the other way around

Gonna put optics on the 870.

Ran that same gun for years with a drilled and tapped receiver with a pic rail. Never had any issues using 3" sabots.

I uSed a saddle mount on my wife's 870. It was cheaper and seemed easier to remove when I put her shot barrel back on. But that was years ago when I was young and broke. Today If Hunt with a slug gun it would be a dedicated deer gun so drilled and taped would be more likely. But since our slug gun or black powder regs have changes to pcp and other rounds like 350 legand on public land and 243 and up on private I don't see me ever shooting slugs again.

I put a saddle on mine for turkey hunting with a FFIII. It keeps your head up off the stock a little, but to get used to it I took it on a dove hunt and shot a box of shells through it. Actually killed 6 dove too. I realize you can’t do that with a scope, but shoot enough and you’ll throw it up likes it’s second nature.

I used a saddle on my 870 12 gauge for 25+ years of 3-1/2 turkey loads. When I switched to an 11/87 20 gauge I went with a saddle as well with no complaints. It does get your check up off the gun, but I installed an accu riser on both guns now the alignment is great.

If the low comb stock is an issue I probably have some high comb 870 12 gauge stocks that would solve that issue.

drill and tap have 2 870s and an 1100 all drilled and tapped by a local shop , blue lock tite and never worry about it moving

I found out his secret is he uses a 760 mount on a bunch of the shotguns 870 and 1100, 37 it works and it gets 4 holes in the gun where the factory 870 mount had 3

the forward screw is short but it does grab.

they both have the magpul stocks now , the cheek risers are available in Low Med high and the high gets your eye right up there behind a the optic

it also has adjustable length of pull from 12.5 to 14.5 with 4 spacers
I like it at 3 spacers 14 inches
each spacer is a half inch
one screw to change

Pick your preferred mount, then drill & tap it. Wish you were closer because in the time it takes to tell a couple good trapping stories it would be done.
