Barrels filled with dirt probably make pretty decent walls, with lots of insulation factor. And being in Nevada, the wood will probably last quite a while before it rots.

Unique, that's for sure.

Many of the old timers believed donkeys kept snakes away as well as other varmints.

Tonapah was a silver mining town. I suspect the power poles were put in much later than the old cabin.
