I am working on my last bar of soap from 2022. So I put together a soap batch made with bobcat fat tallow that I have been saving for this purpose. It was sun rendered then strained to keep it as pure and as clean as possible. I have never used cat fat previously but wanted to try it for this batch of soap.

I have used coon, skunk, beef and sheep tallow fat previously. I used "Peach Cilantro" essential oil for the scenting of the soap.

I actually made the soap yesterday afternoon. You have to let any freshly made soap set up in the mold and cool for 24 hrs or so in order for the chemical process to take place prior to cutting it.

Distilled water, lye and your selected fat tallow are the ingredients. Some prefer non scented soap, since I usually give a few bars to friends I add a scented fragrance to my batches. Any leftover mold trimmings or soap scraped out of the mixing bowl is saved for laundry soap.

Sliced soap bars ready for aging. It takes 3-4 weeks for the soap bars to sit out and air cure prior to use. Each batch will last me about 2 years if I don't give too much away. The cure time allows the soap to harden or it will dissolve much faster then you want.

It leaves your skin very smooth and soft due to the fat content.

You fellas that don't shower often or don't use deodorant may find making your own soap and using it to be just the ticket for your manly hygiene. smile

I have used skunk fat previously also. Any fat will work.

The ingredient formula I use is as follows. The steps and final ingredient temperatures are critical for a good soap end result and safety.

40oz. tallow fat,13.4 oz of distilled water and 5.4oz lye crystals. I use an electric stir stick for blending and mixing. It is much easier and thorough than hand stirring but that can be done adequately also.

Thank you for sharing your soap making, Bob. I love custom made soap. Never have made any myself but sure do look for custom soaps at local stores , farmers markets and fair events.

All I require is that it smells good and suds up nicely .

Usually the soap is very creamy and even in texture. However this batch started to set up very quickly and I barely had enough time to get it into the mold before it was completely set up. The reason might have been the composition of the cat tallow fat or the lye/water mix was still too warm that caused the quick set up transition. It smells great and I am sure this will be as good as the last few batches.

Send me your address Sharon and I will send you a sample to use once it has cured well. All that have used it have liked it.

Wow Bob, you are so kind, and generous. But you also need to keep soap too, as you stated , so it will last you all year !

That said, my love of being clean and trying custom great soaps gets the bettah of me...and one of yours will surely be a one and only first with those very unique ingredients.

I will send you a pm with my address. Many thanks , Bob.

I will be giving my friends wife the fat off of the Brown Bears here in Alaska this year. She makes great soap bars with it. I keep the black bear fat for cooking. It cleans better than Dove and makes your skin much smoother than regular soap as well.

Home made soap is easy to make with a little practice. A great body wash and laundry soap. It will not dehydrate or remove your natural skin oils, it actually enhances and helps to protect the natural suppleness of your skin. Your skin will feel lubricated.

My favorite fat to use is the fat inside of deer. The fat around the organs make the smoothest fat that I have found. If you are trying to make soap, find a good soap formula app online and it will allow you to plug in what type of fat you are using and tell you the amount of lye needed.

Here is a good calculator for various fats.
