Why is it so difficult for many of the folks on Trapperman, that are selling an item, to understand that shipping a flat-rate package to Alaska is no different than shipping it to a neighbor? I’m sure this has been brought up before, but, nevertheless, I see more and more ads with flat-rate shipping to the lower 48 only.

I recently asked a guy this same thing. He told me his post office says flat rate boxes don’t work for Alaska I told him bs go talk to the postmaster and have them tell their employees they are wrong I don’t know if they actually did it though

Back when my mom was still alive she used to send me packages once in a while. I was appalled at the amount she was paying in postage. She claimed that her local postmaster told her it was "extra" to send things to Alaska. My next trip to visit her...I also visited the local postmaster.

For some reason postal rates for her dropped after that visit.

This is good to know. I've been told the same thing by two different Post Offices here. Next time I'll have to have a talk with the Postmaster

I ordered some traps from MTP once and the flat rate boxes were packed so full they looked like they were going to explode, they obviously know how to run a business. We've had a lot of issues with the village post office so we mostly ship from Fairbanks and sometimes have our packages delivered to a friend in Fairbanks. I've had no issues of individual sellers not shipping to Ak. But there are a lot of companies that won't or they charge an insane shipping fee. I'm always happy to take my $$ elsewhere.

I have had similar experiences with MTP. Stuffed boxes for the flat rate price. Another company that does well on shipping to Alaska is F-n-T. In addition to the UPS flat rate shipping, they have a FedEx flat rate option that I thought was a great deal. I have been satisfied with both of their AK shipping policies.

I frequently send flat rate packages to Alaska. It's no different than sending in the lower 48.

Me too. Gal squawked the first time. The postmaster must have overheard, she came out and said “you have to accept that flat rate package the same as any other, with no delay”. Surprised me, I thought she came out to gang up on me. grin
