Put trapped momma back in the capture area and set traps around it for the juveniles. Never listen to the consumer about such matters. This kind of job can haunt you for a while as you may find out in the days to come.

Try a coon squaller, I have had the kits come to the call of an adult in attics.

Exactly Bob, because now if you can't extract the kits...it's YOUR fault, not the customer's.

One of those hard lessons we have to learn on our own. Trapping her alive gives you options. Kill trapping or dispatching before you know where the pups are is a big mistake.

Chase them down, lol. One of my more memorable rodeos was six kits running around on a basement drop ceiling.

If you have a mother racoon with kits under a mobile home or shed, how do guys determine when the kits are mature enough be caught?

How they sound can be used to judge age. Lots of chattering, particularly if mother has been away indicates younger still nursing kits. The older they get the less chattering and more movement sounds.

I have heard no chattering nor have the homeowners. Lots of running around on the soffit which is one level down from my access point. I'm taking several skunk size traps today and set them. I'll also try to locate and grab any I can.

Caught one kit today. Gave him some water and apples and left him there to lure his siblings. We shall see.

If the kits are big enough to walk around on their own, they are big enough to be caught? I have similar situation mother with at least 2 kits under a porch I;ve seen on trail cam. Worried if I catch the mother first the young wont find their way into other traps but is that a non-issue?

Depends, there's a short window in there where they're big enough to move around in the "den" but not yet going out with mama. Kind of like the fledgling but not yet fully flighted stage for birds.

This is why using mama to call them out helps. Once they are venturing out with mama they get caught just like any other.
