Fair little pattern to play with. You might have found a load that you can piddle around with and really have something special

Rental. Yeah was the only thing they had for me to get this go around due to memorial day weekend so got to basically get a free 300miles test drive lol. Was also supposed to get supplies for the boat and need something with more cargo capacity so it all worked out. All in all was a nice ride just no real acceleration .
Heard there gonna be coming out with a bone stock version later this year for like 15k so might end up getting one of those if they come in 4x4 automatic

Yeah think of I get them up to 2100fps they will stabilize better and might have something nice to take to 100yd. Need to cast up some more though because this batch was...meh

I love hunt with old slow moving (and very predictable) calibers. No matter what the latest greatest thing is those ol rounds git the job done!

Question: doesn’t that thing around the barrel mess up the barrel harmonics? Might get better accuracy without it?

O your talking about my magneto speed chronograph.

So yeah that's something I've been asked a lot and honestly I have seen any measurable difference with my rifles. I just plain haven't . Then again on a average I'm like a 1.5-2 MOA shooter and most of my load development stops when I'm at the velocity I want and the group says under 1" @100yd .

And I load more with the Cortina method where for a good bit of it I don't really care about my groups size , I'll chase as a velocity with a low S-D . I'll still shoot the group but I'm looking at the velocity usually more then anything. Once j gets that then I'll look that group and thinker with seating depth and the like ....and honestly this has been faster for me. And with hat I really need the magneto speed. Now with that being said I have looked at groups with and without, same load distance ect and usually I'm getting about the same size groups so confused
So for me it just hasn't been much of a problem. And @50yd....eeeeghhhh I don't think it would make a ton of difference

I was going to to ask that same question. I found and was always told that’s a no no. Old bench rest shooter from years back told me to never touch the barrel when firing. Habit I have when sand bagging a shot is free hand on top of scope. He made a good point. Why pay to bed and free float a barrel if you then keep it from traveling at moment of discharge?

I just recently bought a magneto speed and tried shooting groups with it on and it was a no go.

Ah, if your only shooting at 50yds I can see your point I guess. But you still got squirrel accuracy at 50 yds with those cast bullets.

Think it's different from eveyones rifle. That being said they do make there deal that hold it off the barrel.jnow alot of the ELR crowd uses these since they line see the velocity of each and every single (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman)

Well with cast your supposed to start load development at 50yd....for some reason, idk. The cast bullet community is so weird. If you start at 100yd with a 10rd group ya get told that too long and too much, back up to 50yd with a 3 red that too short and not enough smirk idk about all the cast load manuals ( that I barely use funny enough) all do their loads @50yd so idk. That being said I'm not gonna push most of my cast stuff past 200yd max. 30-100yd is gonna be about average.

But again I feel for the most part either army rifles just plain don't care or I just really don't have the whatever to really be able to see much of a difference. Might also to with the face most of my barrels are more on the bull side . Also since I shoot mainly from a bipod it might have something to do with nullifying the harmonics.. possibly.

On another note I do feel a lot of it could be one of those things where people basically make something not work. Like I see many times if someone thinks something won't work they won't put alot of effort into it like they usually would and when it doesn't they go " SEE TOLD YOU !" Like they strap it on mentally check out because they already know it's gonna shoot like crap and proceed to shoot like crap.... Not saying that's eveyone but it's definitely a possibility.

Also I if your one of thesr bench rest guys with SUPER TUNED rifles and loads where you gaugeing your groups in the .00" then yeah definitely can see it making a difference or at least being much more noticeable at theat level....but at that level EVERY LITTLE THING makes a difference ( I Mean heck they adjust their loads on the bench as the temperature goes up " of went from 80° to 81° ? Time to add another kernal !) soooo yeah

Went to a friends range today with my son and took several rifles and we reload all our ammo. We were shooting steel plates from 100 to 600 yards. Spent the whole day just having fun and shooting. I broke out the Buffalo Classic with my pet powder puff load of 12 grains of Unique and a 350 grain cast bullet. I put a model 1901 US Krag rear sight on it so I,ve got plenty of elevation. Was ringing the plate at 500 and have done 800 there before, I love to play with that rifle.

On a trapping related note we saw an otter running across a bare dirt field cutting the corner on a dry branch. They are everywhere here.

I keep thinking final frontier for Wolfie is to make his own 5.56 jacketed bullets by swaging spent 22 lr cases. That would be right up his alley.
