I misunderstood. I thought you meant for back up. Big boar backed up against something and you have to shoot between dogs, the precision of a scope would be very handy.

I shot my only bear in the UP of Michigan with a Smith Model 29 44 mag.  It went thirty feet and collapsed.  I had a Super Blackhawk that I shot in a metallic silhouette league and it performed well.

True twobit. But not always.Yes of course. Nothing more distracting than a guy screaming at you "don't shoot my dog" while You're waiting for the broadside shot and clear background.  If anyone wants to go on a cheap black bear hunt with a very high success rate, northern California is packed full of bears. Go up to tedoc, I run into no less than 3 in a weekend hunt. One time I ran into 5 on a morning walk. I always see hogs and bears before I see deer. Anywhere north of Redding is overrun by bears.
