Been showing up which I hadn't noticed before. I researched and learned that birds will remove poo from their nests and drop it in a birdbath. I just witnessed a filthy grackle doing just that. I know...They're a pretty songbird so they're protected. laugh

Same here the grackles leave dried clumps all over the yard from the nests.

Hmm. Can't say I've witnessed that before. Will try and see if I can.

Vinke, why do you feel the urge to ruin threads?

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Put chicken wire or something over the bird bath to keep the birds out and that should keep it clean.

Just out of curiosity, why would you have a bird bath and then want to keep the birds out of it?

I have nothing clever to put here.

There was a bait shop in Dayton, Ohio, near Eastwood Park, where a grackle would fly in the open door, land on the counter and sing at the owner. The owner would grab a dip net, net a minnow and hold it in his outstretched hand. The grackle would sing at him like it was saying thank you, grab the minnow and fly back out. I saw it happen numerous times over several years. It was cool.

I once asked if he had fed the grackle as a baby and the owner told me it just started coming in and doing that one day.

I've seen birds at a Cheapo Depot store fly up in front of the auto door opener,, hover there, and when the door opens, fly in to feed their babies. LOL
