I've been looking all over my woods for these elusive buggers. I've tried around elm trees as someone told me to look. Shaded areas and areas recently cut up. I found two on the edge of my lawn and one where I planted some grass in a bald spot. Any tips on best places to look?

A deranged student with a rifle had no problem getting into a school. A student with a bible would have been stopped immediately.

You will want to spend most of your time looking up not down.Look for trees that are dead or have a dead branch with the bark starting to fall off.Once all the bark is gone they aren’t very productive anymore.Once you figure out what a potential good tree looks like you might find 1 in 20 to have morels under them or sometimes 0 out of a hundred. My two cents.

How about lowland or river bottom areas? I searched my river bottom this spring without luck. Then a neighbor found one on the top of my driveway where its real sandy?

They are all done for the year around here so even if you are in the right spots you may not find them now.

I have nothing clever to put here.

We're right at the end of the season but other mushrooms are popping up everywhere! Everyone focuses on Morels and walks past tons of others.

Most people have a healthy fear of mushrooms that are harder to identify, that have many lookalikes. I like wild mushrooms, but don't like them enough to risk my health or life eating them. The only ones I harvest are morels, field mushrooms, pheasant backs/dryad's saddles, puffballs, lions mane, hen of the woods, chantrelles and chicken of the woods. I would like to know some of the other species well enough to be sure of them.

Found a puffball last night driving through timber behind the house. I was shocked have never seen one before the middle of september.

Good trees on gravelly sidehills. Elms their fingers are reaching towards the sky. Nowadays are wood lots are littered with dead ash. Haven’t had the luck under them.
