Got a call from a lady who has a woodpecker nest in her siding. I already let her know that I could not legally trap or dispatch protected birds like that. She can hear the babies and pecking all night and is going crazy over it. I know the babies will be out of the nest by mid summer, but until then is there anything this lady can do? I know the state will say, leave them alone until they're out, then patch the hole. The lady also states that the hole is very high up and she does not have a ladder tall enough to reach. I'm located in Wisconsin btw.

I’d make sure there are actually woodpeckers there. They might not be woodpeckers. You may be able to do something.

I have seen my share of woodpecker nests in wood sided homes over the years. Cedar and T111 particularly.

Other than the classic SSS, you're screwed, or rather she is.

My daughter had same problem on her house with cedar siding. It now has vinyl siding.

Might try Avigaurd, I have had good luck with it. Bird-B-Gone sells them. its a tea bag looking thing that emits a scent that woodpeckers dont like. Be best if the babys can fly. Not cheap but pass the cost along.

Twenty years ago the dropdown spider used to work pretty good. It was activated by movement or noise near it. It made a loud clicking noise as it dropped an more loud clicks as it climbed back up to reset. I don't know about the new models. Drop down spider
