I sprayed the property for ticks based on one of the tick threads here. Still seeing ticks now and again. Not sure if they are from the garden or the woods line but the “mayflies” (Deer Flies) are absent from our usual onslaught this time of year.
I believe I can deal with the occasional tick over the holding your hand over your mouth so you don’t eat three or four flies on the way from the car to the house. I’ll keep spraying.

They are here in PA. Deer fly: Mayfly: You-unz is more educated than us here. Everybody calls the deer flies, may flies around here, hence my may flies (deer flies) writing.

Get ya some chickens or guinea fowl I have a zip lock with 37 ticks and some rubbing alcohol in it to keep them lubed, that my Wife and I have found crawling or bite on us so far this year. There has been a few that did not make the zip lock. Those all came from a yard that has 45 chickens roaming around in everyday. Chickens will not clear ticks out of a yard, they may thin them out some, but I am not sure they like the taste of ticks.

One is small and looks just like a housefly and only bites your ankles. They don't fly around your head. You can't hardly kill them because as soon as you bend down to swat them, they fly off for a bit as soon as they see your face. That type of fly is terrible here right now. I just came in and my ankles are making me miserable. What's a good product to send them all to the fiery torment they deserve. Keith

Yes, I was going to reply that those are stable flies but you beat me to it. They sure do have a painful bite for such a small fly.
Thankfully, we don’t have them around my area of Southeast Pennsylvania or around the area of my camp in North Central Pennsylvania. I learned about them when working in the Poconos in Northeast Pennsylvania, where apparently they are thick.
Eh...wot?
