We've done beavers, and you've maybe seen some of these photos before. Nonetheless, they are a very important furbearer throughout most of North America, and I thought we should do 'em again. Hope you don't mind.

My baculum coffee table. In the center of the rosette in the right hand side, are all beaver bacula.

Beaver ear bones for muscle attachment for closing the ear canals when they dive. As far as I know, beavers are the only animal that has these bones.

Just a few of the beaver side products that I market or make use of myself. Oil sacs in the first shot frozen in half gallon milk jugs. Nice string of river castors. And for Beaverpeeler; a nice winter meal of beaver stew.

BP, do you freeze them in water or just toss em into the jug? Good idea!

Tatiana, you've got to teach that thumb to stay out of beaver traps!

Gulo that table is truly a work off art!

Beaver tail oil. Bear outfitters buy all I can make
Have about 10 five gallon pails on the go
[Linked Image]
What’s left of five gallons of bto after I filled some bottles
[Linked Image]
344 ounces heading to an outfitter north of me.
[Linked Image]

Can’t keep up with the orders and need 10 more pails of cut up tails. 1 year outside in the sun and I can pull about 80 ounces a pail. Second year I can pull a bunch more ounces but nothing close to the first pull. I sell the pail of tails after the second pull of oil and it is the best bear bait around!

Sweet! I just tried it, but on a much smaller scale. These have been sitting for about a month.

Jars were full but I guess it’s breaking down.

Another great Photo Phriday
sure wish I could post on here because there was a good diorama in HBC store in Winnipeg that showed all the old tokens paid for beaver pelts.
Interesting that the pelts desired were ones used as winter bedding with all the guard hairs worn off.
Someone has to have a pic of a beaver press.
Tatiana interesting the English on the label....Vase zdorovje......to your health.
Nice work on the beaver tails that you did.

Depending on how much they buy and who they are/ repeat customers $5.86 to $7.31 American or $8-$10 Canadian.

Packed up another order just now. It’s late and I have to work at 7am but the outfitters picking up tomorrow morning at 6am. Hard not to get more ready! Left side going one way right side to a repeat customer and he delivers to the camp beside him.

Saskbone, I guess you just close the lids loosely so no flies can get in and just leave it outside all summer?
Your mail box is full.

Wicked ice conditions early winter, I don’t think this is the norm…lol. Looks like good action here but nobody’s home. Someone else was here already earlier this fall. It’s the one pond that’s easy to get to with quad, the rest are snowmobile (if we get snow) Argo or foot.
[Linked Image]

This is the next pond in line…left this young couple alone this year. Think they survived the poor snow/ice conditions and the wolves didn’t bother them. Got 4 of em out of the pack on and near this pond.
