Need some help/advice. My son raises Bob White quail and from time to time several off his quail die off.

Would freezing the dead quail whole until I get a fair amount make for a good base for a predator bait. I was considering doing this but don’t know if it’s a good idea or not. My plan was to grind the whole birds after thawing and preserving it with SB and glycerine.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and what other additives would be good if the quail for a base meat can be used.

Thanks in advance!

My advise is to gut them then ur good to go. The additive would be a quality bait solution or some of your favorite lure other wise your going to have to do a bunch of testing to get it right

I use quail parts during the colder months (no ants) and do really good with natural baits. I’ll just take a large knife and quarter them up and even use guts by themselves. This is feathers and all.

Have you ever used turkey hearts for making a bait?

Haha, I haven’t had much luck with turkey for some reason. I guess because I eat all the good stuff. The quail are usually ones that were destroyed when shot too close or training quail that the dogs have just gumped up by retrieving.

a few quail feathers in your backing is a good attractant. everything eats them
