Going in next week to get my left knee replaced. I'm sure quite a few have had this experience. Just wondering how your recovery went and did the replacement meet your expectations.

I had a rear root, medial meniscus repair last October. It's gone badly. I fell a week after surgery, getting out of the shower and had a large painful pop. It hurts badly to walk and work on my farm. Once I finally sit down, I hurt terribly and move very, very badly, when I get up again. It sucks.

Financially it's been terrible. I couldn't earn like I usually do. I made about 1/10th of what I usually do last year. Medical.related expenses have been terrible. I have spent most of my life's savings. I lost a lot of my business share too.

I have been pushing sales and adding new customers and hope to start thriving again. If I work continuously during the day, I hurt, but not as much as if I take breaks. Not being able to do the work I want to do, has been hard on me. I am used to working most of the time. I used to do stuff that can be construed as work for 16 hours most days.

Keith sorry yours didn't work out. Hopefully you can get back to station better spot.
My wife hers replaced last June and it worked out really good . Listen to the docs and pt and do what they tell you. Hopefully it makes a good difference for you.

Both of mine have been replaced. The first I was walking up and down the road in two weeks, the second took a little longer but was still good. In six weeks I was released by doctor and good to go. I would do it again in a second. Do what your doctor tells you plus a little more but don't over do it, listen to your body. Good luck.

Couple years ago, I had both knees replaced at the same time. No problems.
I did the rehab and did extra rehab at home, on my own.

3 weeks I was walking without an cane
4 weeks I went with wetdog (a member here). We checked his Beaver traps.
5 weeks I set & checked my own Beaver traps

Younger brother had his done. After a painful recovery and rehab he felt a clicking. They found some debris from the plastic bushing in an X-ray and he had another surgery where they removed and replaced the bushing in the new knee. He is still under a lot of discomfort and is scheduled to have the same knee replacement surgery again !
I think at this point he would gladly take the old knee back.

The day after when the pain meds wore off was a painful 24 hours. Other than that it’s not bad. I had my first one done right before Christmas and set coyote traps in February. You need someone to help care for you the first week or two

My wife had both her's done at once, but she's tough. Doc she had was great ,do research who does your surgery. First couple weeks was hard for her and me { the care giver } but she's doing great. Do your PT and you'll be fine.

Find the BEST surgeon in your area then go find the VERY BEST physical therapist for your area.
Was told this by a great P.T. person.
If you don't swell and retain fluid you'll do good.
If you are a sweller and retain you'll have some problems. Totally follow all the orders the doctor and P.T. tell you. Don't try to over do to get better faster.
2 knees, 1 hip and a total reversed replaced right shoulder.

I had a complete replacement done 12 days ago. I walked out of the wake up room an hour after surgery down to a pt room where they had me going up and down stairs immediately. They walked me out of the building, using a Walker after that. Stopped for a chicken sammy then home, 7 total hours from walking in the facility door to home.
The toughest is the swelling within the knee, it goes away last versus the areas around it. I’m still dealing with it, but will be on a construction site maybe 2 hrs from now, then errands, then a follow up doctors appt. You will make it.

Both of my knees were bone on bone had the first one done the day after deer season last November done as I was told to do by the book. Had very little pain went last week for the 6 month follow up set to have the other one done the day after deer season this November. Had a lady I know that had her done a week after I had my done and set her own rules and is paying for it big time.

Wife had both of hers done the second went easier then the first did for her maybe it was knowing what was going to happen after the first one was fixed. I had to play nurse Nancy the first time the second time she was more independent I was impressed the way she handled it.

I had my right knee replaced 2 years ago, it didn't turn out to good. I did everything like i was supposed to, pt, walking ice. Still gets stiff and hurts. It wakes me up at night hurting. Went and had another specialist look at it, he said my knee cap is on crooked, he said leave it until i can't stand it then he will try to fix it

My wife had both of hers replaced a year apart from the doctor who i got the second opinion from and after a few months you wouldn't know anything was wrong. She does anything she wants to and no pain.
So I guess if you have the right doctor and things go right you will be glad you got it done

Had bilateral hips then bilateral knees done, that's both at the same time...
Listen to the doc and do the pre surgery exercises, do the PT, use ice and tylenol for after PT or when the pain starts creeping up, take the good stuff before PT, you'll probably only need it for a week.
1 knee is a piece of cake if the surgery goes well, Make sure the surgeon is good and has a lot of surgeries under their belt. The surgeon I have does all the revisions after the other docs mess up. His team does over a thousand replacements a year, they're really good at their job, try to find one of those.. Get a grabber thingee to pick up stuff off the floor or out of reach, get a toilet seat riser, especially if doing both at the same time, do the PT exercises at home between appointments.

You should be up and walking day 1, use the walker and the cane, you do NOT want to fall, you should be walking on your own in 2-3 weeks, driving in 4, light work in 6-8.

But remember, and this is what the surgeon told me, "as good as these replacements are, they're not as good as original equipment!" Good luck, any questions or concerns shoot me a message, goes for all here, ...

They say hip replacement recovery is much easier than knee replacement recovery.

A friend of mine had his first knee done. He said recovery was a piece of cake, so he did he second one. That one the recovery was much harder.

I appreciate the insight. Most the comments give me great hope I'll be trapping come November.
