650 people are going to no longer working for John Deere in 2024. I read it in the Des Moines register. Hopefully they are able to find other jobs. Most of these jobs are located in Iowa.

That's a good price. I'm assuming these bolts are USA made? I paid $15 including shipping for one Volkswagen bolt about 10 years ago.

Nothing the Chinese won’t copy and sell cheaper it’s amazing the amount of items they knock off it’s to the point buying American is not even a option because so many things have been copied in China. People buy stuff knowing it’s cheap and poorly made the wrapper is often made better than the item inside of it.

It’s a disposable world full of junk try to find quality products today heck they sell tape that won’t stick, toxic painted toys for our kids and so many worthless items and we keep buying the garbage it’s our own fault. Go to a home improvement center and try to buy quality items it’s about impossible to do so. The last kitchen faucet I replaced weighed 3 time what the new one did and it was the same brand just made way cheaper and cost more.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

You would assume wrong. $400 for a caliper for my jd Gator and I figured at least it is a us made part. Only to be disappointed when I opened the box and cast into the part was China.

JD is not even on my list of tractors I consider buying. They have a lot of them they just buy parts from other people and put them together. Especially the smaller under 100hp tractors.

I still have a pair of old 4020s I try and keep going and an old 24T baler I keep spitting out small squares with.......parts are definitely not cheap when buying from Deere. Getting ready to put in the 3rd throwout bearing and clutch fingers on one of the 4020s and dreading going in this week.

sign of the times, money is getting tighter, costs have gone up and wages haven't kept up for years.

I have 2 deeres, a small lawn tractor and a compact tractor. Their prices for parts are ridiculous, I have bought parts for German cars, much cheaper than Deere stuff.
What really is disgusting is once you get the stuff you find its made in China. You know Deere is really gouging you.

If the Deere stuff was all made in America I would gladly pay the price to keep my fellow Americans working, but when it comes from China, I'm disgusted, I doubt I'll ever buy a Deere again.

I had to have 4 bolts 5/8'' x 1 1/2'' with square shoulders for side rail on JD, cost me $31.

It’s all misinformation!! Economy is booming. Jobless rate is so low they are going to cut out unemployment programs. Need the money to boost SSI 600 a month to all those that didn’t pay in a dime if social security. Lot of them have not been in US but 3-4 years or less

I believe this is accurate. And a good reason to not have a consumer mind set but an investor mind set. When things tank there will be a lot of opportunities for money to be made just like in 08. Lots of fire sales and repo's.

I looked quick but didn't see, what employees were laid off? White collar workers are not being valued like they were, turns out if you can work from home there's a solid chance AI or Pajeet can also do your job.

If cat made quality small tractors that operated like my equipment at work it would be a no brainer choice for me. With my arm on my arm rest the loader control pistol grip is right in my hand zero reaching for the lever at all. And shuttle shift= no cluching or working a treadle peddle.

Net US farm income was down last year from 2022 and is projected to be down in 2024 from 2023. About 30% less net these last couple years. Prices are down for almost all commodities and input and equipment prices are still very high. With higher interest rates also there is not enough income to replace farm equipment. Would be interesting to see which divisions are laying off, major agriculture or small tractors, lawn mowers etc. Their bigger sales the last years have been more industrial and recreational then in basic ag. Not on common to see these swings in our farm economy.

Deere in Dubuque iowa is laying off around 200. They make construction equipment there. Must be a lower demand for akid loaders, backhoe and dozers.

Im sure different regions see different preferences, but JD has lost a lot of their grip in these parts as I said.

I see Fendt tractors are German made, If the price is comparable to Deere it's a no brainer.... cause it's German, lol

There are some Fendt tractors built in MN. DCPD plastics molded in Michigan, painted in MN and assembled in MN. Not sure where other components are made.

I've lost a lot of respect for JD since they started designing their products to only be repaired by JD personnel.
The 'Right to repair' types have been after them for years to make their products so a farmer or whoever can fix it without JD guidance.

I dislike Apple products for the same reason.

Many large farms and or large custom system now use leasing as a common way to gain access to newer technology and not have to commit a lot of leverage or collateral to buy the expensive equipment. Lease rates are not always lower cost or the best but it does give the option to up grade more quickly then many would by owning and then trading. It may not be as common in the heavy cash grain areas but here with all our forage production leasing is quite common as usage is high and updates in tech is pretty quick. Tieing up a lot of capital in ownership and debt even with even 3,000 acres to harvest is not generally a good way to produce products cost effectively. Finding labor to run 4-8 pieces of equipment let alone 6-8 semis is not easy to find and thus custom operators have become very common here. The bigger machinery dealers here have been willing to work out lease agreements. The big issue dealers have is it is not as easy as one would think to find a buyer for a 3-4 year old used 700 hp chopper or a 27 foot tractor mounted haybine.
