So to start out I’m new to using these traps. I have been looking for some traps that are both affective and not as visible to the public eye.
Anyways I was very surprised to see these little traps have the holding power they do. Today while trapping in a park I caught a gopher in one of these gophenator traps, it was only caught by a couple toes, had a Tug A War going on until a leg popped loose. I’m figuring a gopher won’t live long without a leg. I’m thinking I might need to buy a few more and really give them a better chance.

I once caught a starnose by the tip of its nose. I always thought that was a pretty bad way to go.

I have caught moles by the nose also. And I have caught lots of gophers in cinch traps by just one jaw impailing them.

I have been using the trapline traps for moles for longer than I can remember. Great little trap and very effective once you get on to a good setting technique. I have caught moles, shrews, voles and chipmunks using them. Strong, small and deadly in the right hands.

Sounds more like some varmint came along and ate your catch!

I've used trapline gopher and mole traps quite a bit. For whatever reason I seem to catch gophers by the front feet often, more so than a Cinch trap. Have had tug of wars also....

The mole traps are hands down the best mole trap there is, just have to bed them by pushing down firmly and setting the trigger so that the mole can push it a ways before firing. Set two traps back-to-back and plug the tunnel after placing/bedding in the tunnel.

BigBob , no critter I was playing tug o war with it, caught another foot today, I’m just surprised these traps are strong enough to do this. We have some whopper sized gophers here.

Trapline mole traps look like they would work well when a mole goes thru them. But have to ask......other than digging them up, how do you do a trap check? The molereapers I got from Tony remain visible above the surface and are either set as you left them or fired. And only one trap per set.....vs. two.

Good instructions and videos from Trapline. Getting better at looking for and finding the deeper runs. Very helpful!

Cut out sod sections are a fast way to check. Just remove the sod, take a look to see if either trap is fired. I catch lots of doubles with back to back set ups. You only catch one mole with a single trap. I like the fact they are "out of site" and marked with a location and anchor flag. We used OS traps before other options were available.

It is all about what system suits you best and which is most productive with your particular skill set with that device.

I have used OOS for years, I like the idea of the Trapline traps, not taking a little kids finger off when I’m trapping in the parks. I just signed another 3 year contract with them and would hate to have to explain how a kid found one and started playing with it.

A few years ago I had a little girl that was living with her homeless grandparents decide to pull all my flags and play with them. What a mess, I had about 35 mold traps out in deep tunnels. Grandpa was kinda a grumpy fellow, not very nice to the poor little girl. I took her a birthday present, probably the only thing she got. I think she was 7 pretty sad.

Sometimes simply cutting a chunk of sod out, setting traps, and then replacing it is not an option. In fact, almost 100% of my trapping is done on very shallow surface tunnels. There is not sod “plug”. And when it dries out it’s even worse.

I actually designed a way to check traplines without having to dig them up. I 3d printed some parts to make it work. Never got around to making the hand held tool
That basically is a housing, a led light, and battery. It all works on continuity. When the trap is set, there is continuity and when checked with the handheld tool, the light will come on (because there is continuity). When the traps fires, continuity is broken and the light won’t come on when checked. So basically at each trap you’d have 2 wires sticking out of the ground. You’d touch these to the handheld tool and if the light comes on the trap is set and if it doesn’t then the trap has fired. It was a fun little project, and like most of my other projects, not finished LOL!

Tony - very interesting! (In a Col. Klink voice).

Will your device work if you use Trapline mole traps upside down?

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with the trap upside down

Very nice Tony!!! Now make a setup that trips a flag up like an ice fishing rig.

Thanks! The flag idea was attempted by a fellow mole trapper And I believe it was unsuccessful. It requires a bunch of extra prep work on the set and you also run the risk of the flag hindering the traps performance. Cool idea but unfortunately it’s likely not feasible.
