There used to be lots of resorts in the BW before it became the BW in 1960something as I recall. Many of the old resorts and cabins were burned. I know of one place where as of a few years ago, the gasoline "Visible pump" was still standing and another that had a pick up truck out in the middle of nowhere.
330, be sure to drag a Cleo across Snowbank. There are some nice Lakers in there.
I have nothing clever to put here.

I just got home last week from another solo trip. Got PMA permits so stayed on whitefeather the first night after a long drive/day on no sleep. Next morning left whitefeather, crossed stuart, and bushwacked through nibbin and whatever the o5her lake is into sterling for four nights. Left sterling back to stuart for two nights. Hammered walleye every lake. Stuart lake averaged bigger but sterling was more action. Flyrod and hammer handles on white feather was fun. Saw a sow with 2 cubs, heard a wolf howl, didn't see a soul except a canoe crossing stuart at a distance. Flies were almost non existing but skeeters were about as bad as I've seen. I camped on islands or points and the wind took care of them for the most part. Going back June 20 with my wife and another solo trip close to fall. I'm sure you'll have a good trip! I think they recovered the other body yesterday? I assume all that opened back up? Last year, I was headed up to loon lake in high water. It all looked different and I missed the portage and almost got pulled over devils cascade. I can happen in an instant. I never wore my life jacket up till then. After that trip, I bought a nice comfortable one. Still don't wear it all the time like I should but I wear it in high wind or fast rivers. Don't catch em all!

Took some of my FFA students there on trips in the late 70’s throug early 80’s. First couple were 7 day trips from lake 1 and ending in Mooose. Then it was Moose to Ensign and set up base camp on ensign. Toward end of those trips it was ferry to portage to ensign and then base camp. Walleye fishing was great on Ensign. Canoeing on Moose was a nightmare . Had to stop trips in late 80’s when school got worried about liability’s. Always wanted to go back but don’t think I could handle it now. Bears in camp were always interesting. Had one chump down one a new tool of toilet paper and shear it in half. Whole new respect for bears after that.

Had fun up there. Caught my fill of smallmouth bass. The trout were huge too. Fried bacon every day hoping to see a bear, all we got was a moose and her calf walk through camp. Good times, I'd like to go back. I use to do that hoping to see bears until me and a buddy were on lac la croix and while out fishing, a bear took all our food. We had it hanging but not good enough I guess. We lived on walleye and three packs of oatmeal for a few days. I think they made a law a out food storage? That's what the pma permit lecture lady told me.

Many years ago we had a large fire up in that area and were dropping retardant on it with multiple tankers. This was before "scooping" planes were a thing. Anyway, one of the PB4Y's lost an engine so he jettisoned the load "blind" and returned back to Ely uneventfully. A couple days later a group of scouts stopped by the District office asking how to get the red mud off their tents and canoes. Unbeknownst to the pilot, he pickled the load right over the island they were camped on with coverage level 8. EVERYTHING was red!
