In case y'all don't know it, shipping USPS flat rate boxes to Alaska costs the same as shipping them in the lower 48.

Good tip Paul, I've known that for a long time, but yet I often see the seller say "lower 48" . I have had some good sales to Alaska over the years.

And, From Alaska to the lower 48 is the same deal. Quite a savings!

Yes, Thanks for pointing that out. I still see adds with "lower 48 only" makes no sense.

If you have lighter items you can ship "ground advantage" to the lower 48 which is a lot lower then flat rate Shipping to alaska or hawaii or heavy stuff would not be

Good to know, but unfortunately most of Alaska is not on the road system so not sure if that's available here.

Ground advantage does work to Alaska. I tried a couple of “test packages “ using Pirate Ship.

From 83843 (me in north Idaho ) to 99701 (Fairbanks)..

Box was 12x14x14 and weighed 25 pounds. Rate was about $58.00. An 18 % savings over the post office rate.

The absolute best rate is ground advantage cubic. This is for small, light weight packages (like a small order of Paul’s lures).

Box must be a cubic foot or smaller - that is 12x12x12, or some combination. That is 1728 cubic inches or smaller.

Box must weigh less than 20 pounds.

An example of how much Pirate Ship saves you.

Box is 10x10x10 and weighs 15 pounds. Ground Advantage Cubic through the post office $39.35. Same box through Pirate Ship is $13.49. That is a savings of 66%!,! That really adds up!!

Pirate Ship is a FREE program. All you need is a scale to weigh your package, a tape measure to measure it and a printer to print the label. You can ship post office or UPS. Heck of a deal!!

Paul - sorry for hijacking your post and advertising for Pirate Ship. Just helping people save money. smile

I still see it as well don't really affect me but it's unfortunate for the nice guys and gals way up north

We kind of get hosed on anything oversized though. If it fits in a flat rate box, you're golden, if not it's often cheaper and easier to find another way. I make my own fleshing beams, stretching boards, etc.
