Next time you get an animal and want to save the skin to tan, salt the skin down right after skinning.
Leave the skins on an incline to drain a bit, then fold leather to leather with the salt still on and roll them up.leave rolled up for a couple days, then shake off the old salt and proceed with fleshing on the beam. After the fleshing, salt again with fresh salt, and roll them up like before, then they will be good until you are ready to wash degrease and tan.

You wont have to worry about spoilage once the skins have been salted.
I will flesh these in a couple days and take more pics.

Why not just flesh them after skinning then salt them?

You can do that and board them to tan later.but they flesh nice after salting, the salt removes all the excess moisture and toughens the skin flesh and fat and sets the hair and they are in perfect condition for shaving the thicker parts of the skin where required.
Plus you can work at them in your leisure, once salted there is no rush to skin out feet etc, just unroll and work them when you have a bit of spare time, and no worrys about flies eggs or magots.
Salting removes deadlines in the process.

Boco has it down. If you haven’t seen his fluffed and finished fur, like his foxes, you need to.

I’m eager to see these skunks!!! Thanks Boco. My little project is no good. I’m not sure exactly where it went wrong. Potentially in my salting process. Cause fur is slipping everywhere. Finally pitched the lil guy. Defeated!
