Okay...Wonderful Wife is starting to get around a little better (Day 37 Cancer-Free) and we are going to be fixing up our campfire area a little. We used to have a blast out there cooking and hanging out. We made pizza and bread in our Dutch oven and it all turned out great. I think I read that Cavin Rutstrum made it in a cast iron pan propped up next to a fire.

I think our days of traveling in the North County are done but we would still like to give Bannock Bread a try. If anyone has any tried and true recipes I would really appreciate hearing about them. Either in a Dutch Oven or a pan propped by the fire would be good.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Moosetrot, I wish nothing but the best for your wife!

I have an awesome bannock recipe, but it’s not made over the fire. No doubt you could make it over a fire though.

Best wishes for your wife, pretty much any simple biscuit recipe will work, basically the same thing as bannock just a different name...

I've used this recipe several times camping with the boys, using lard instead of butter, and water instead of milk, cooked by pouring the batter on a cast iron skillet over coals. The truck is to not get the skillet too hot, either by using ashed over coals or setting the skillet on some rocks or small logs to get it off of direct contact with the coals.
