i’m just wondering if any trappers out there have trapped GLSM and if so how was it? i’m looking to set some traps out there this year. i’ll be sure to post the results. not asking for specifics because i don’t want to risk stealing someone “spot”

Did you get a beaver/otter permit for Grand Lake St. Mary's in a drawing? Some of the feeder streams near Montezuma look really good for trapping. I used to fish and turtle trap there pretty often.

St, Mary's is a state park so no hunting or trapping. They do allow some limited duck hunting. They might offer lottery permits for raccoon, beaver, and otter.

Ive never thought of it all being a park just the campground area but it probably is I guess. I'm near there if you guys need anything.

ODNR maps. Yes you can trap the lake in the hunting zones.

I trapped with a friend of a friend, on a controlled area near Zanesville once. The property was mostly land locked by private property, with an 8' chain link and barbwire fence. We ended up finding and camping at a nearby, private lake that let us hunt and trap there. We camped in a van for 5 days. We wanted otter, but never could find any sign of them. We caught many tiny coons and a few beaver.

Like mentioned, you can’t trap beavers or otters in state parks without drawing a permit, and they don’t make it easy. To apply, you have to attend the lottery in person and hope to get drawn. The drawings are held at the five district offices. For me, I would have to take a day off work, drive two hours away and hope I get drawn.
