Can someone tell me what the intended benefit of this is in castor? I’ve seen it mentioned but never used it. Thanks.

Just wondering if it’s a carrier, enhancer or what.

I've added honey and/or molasses to castor before but not phenyl acetic
Maybe that's the correlation
Pheynl does a light honey type odor

Phenyl Acetic Acid crystals has a blend of a mild musky honey-like odor to my nose. I like using the crystals for more controlled distribution without affecting the overall consistency of the product I'm working too much. I like that you can also control the amount presented in formulation better than with honey. Just my 2 cents.

I can't smell the slightest bit of honey in it. Smells like animal urine to me. And in testing my guess it smells nothing like honey to animals, but who knows. I spolled some crystals on my wooden work bench and swept what i could get back in bottle immediately about a year or two ago. Still can smell it in the garage especially on a humid day. I've played with it coyote formulations. I wonder what type of animal the were targeting where you heard of it being mixed with castor

I'm sure PAA is the same as all ingredients- they can vary based on where you get them. Also, then human sense of smell can vary and is so much weaker than those of the critters we chase. I should have stated that PAA is widely described as having a slight honey-like odor... With all those skunks in Kansas, I'm sure you can't smell much of anything, hahahaha.... just pickin'

I put several drops in four ounces of castor and stirred it in. It definitely changed the odor. It seems it may have enhanced it to me? I’ll sniff it through the summer and stir in. So, next question……is this something that would make a coyote or cat go the other way? What iv’e read here and there they mention coons, beaver and maybe bear being somewhat attracted to it in formulation.

I would suggest testing it with a camera and see if you can capture some reactions on camera and go from there... I don't think it would spook them away

Odors very much can be perceived differently from one person to the next. More I compare notes with others on ingredients the more I realize it.

In Nick Wyshinski's books he has it as a ingredient in his predator bait using bobcat meat as the base. I believe he also uses honey with it in that recipe. I have also read that a small amount in glands can give it a boost as it adds a sharp urine smell to it. I know its not much info but hope it helps some.

Yes everyone’s nose is different. Original developers of a lure line knew “ when it was right” to them. Next guy takes it over that can’t be replicated just on paper. PA doesn’t smell at all like honey to me either. Thank you guys for the replies.

Ok, going to have to say I detect a slight honey like odor after a few days in my test jar.
