Sorry not a good photo, but I found this thing today (it is now in the burn barrel ablaze already). All the bats I have seen before were dark brown to blackish and very fine hair. What is this guy? Now deceased and cremated......jk

NO, I found him as I was burning papers and took the photo then tossed him in the fire. Did not think to look at the photo to see how it turned out. Never saw a bat that looked like that before.....jk

Most likely a big brown but pictures of the face and belly would better clues plus wingspan. Obviously too late for that. I would be suspicious of a bat that turned up dead this time of year.

I lean toward big brown as well just on the numbers but that longish hair has me considering red but it's kind of light for that. Bats you need to look at the ear structures.

You could have skinned and boarded him. Groenewold might give you a good price for it, depending on how it measures, of course.

Bats are great, except when they get in the house. Just had one fly into my bedroom a couple days ago at 10:30p as I was watching TV. Our DNR website says I should've opened the window and shut the door and let him find his way out on his own. I ushered him out... differently.

Looked just like that one.

I'd say it's an Eastern Red Bat
