Hardneck verities. Is there the best time to cut scapes? One curl, two curls. Or does it make any difference.

They are absolutely delicious. That's enough reason for me.

I used to think it mattered.
It is really hard to mess this up.

Growers up here insist that cutting scapes will allow more energy for the bulb resulting in larger bulbs?

I have been growing garlic for over 50 years.If you want larger bulbs,,you must cut the Scapes.I like to cut them as soon as the seed head forms on them.Cut them when they are young and tender(as soon as they curl up) and they are great diced into salads or fried up in food like you would use chives or green onions.
