Keep coming up with very little information
Can join the NTA , but where's a real trapping organization?
Predators and callers , isn't helping trappers IMHO as bear hound hunters are involved!

Theres a very active and politically influential hound association in the state. Its been that way as long as I can remember. I have to give them credit from the stand point that I think they've been way more successful at lobbying than trappers. In that process, I wouldnt say they have been kind to trapping but if I say much more on that subject I'll likely be banned from here permanently.

There were two trapping associations in the lower peninsula of state back in the fur boom days. They combined at some point--memory serves me as early to mid 80's. If M. June was here he could likely pin point a date as I clearly recall him forwarding the original motion to combine the districts into one association. In more recent times the callers were added to group. Obviously most of the original callers such as myself came from trapping. And it made sense at that time due to power in numbers. However, I'm becoming less and less inclined to believe the groups should be combined. Much different group of callers now

I can't speak as to what is in the lower Michigan area.
The UP has the U.P. Trappers Association , which I'm a member.

Michigan Trappers and Predator Callers Assoc is a great organization. Im curious what it is that has you 'not fond' of the organization...is there something I am missing..?
Anytime trappers can unite with others to promote the harvest and utilization of furbearers, thats a good thing. Not as many trappers around anymore and they need all the lobbying power they can get, which comes in numbers. The last thing we need is another group with a mindset of 'competing against' trappers for the resources (think houndsmen). If trappers and callers can work together for common goals, more power to them.
Again, if there is something i am missing, please share....

Midlander nailed it. The Michigan Trappers and Predator Callers Association (MTPCA) did change its name in 2009 from the Michigan Trappers Association to the Michigan Trappers and Predator Callers Association to have a place for Predator Callers to have a home. Yes, strength in numbers was a big motivation for the change. Now all these years later we as a group are finally representing the Callers as much as the Trappers. I for one am not a caller. I have called, and will try again, I just am a better trapper than a caller.
In the MTPCA there is no "This side or that side". We are all in this equally. We need all the help we can get just to keep what we have.

Great point BigJoe!
Kind of like ALL sportsmen and women combining their efforts for one cause...to continue to be able to legally pursue harvesting and managing fur bearers.

Went to the MTPCA table in Escabana last year, spoke with the guy for a while about gun laws. Very pro trapping, good guy.

Thanks for the answers , will do some more research.
BigBlackBirds , I know much about the hound hunters and HSUS as bed partners.
They got bobcat trapping closed so they could keep the cats for themselves.
