Mr. Swamp Wolf, you make me right envious. Fine collection!
I’d like to expand my search area off of my farm and neighbor’s property. Mainly swamp around me. Very few creeks.
Down here, the artifacts in the streams are mostly found where you find the pea gravel, which is usually on the upstream side of small shoals or submerged rocky outcroppings. I used to think that's where the fish bunch up and the Natives spent time there fishing/losing their projectiles, but I've found other artifacts (such as pottery pieces and ornamental objects) at these "natural dam" locations. So, now I believe that all these artifacts have accumulated there over the years...along with the pea gravel. Have found hundreds of shark teeth and petrified bone at these locations too.....in addition to modern man "trash". Everything accumulates at these shoals.

Gunnleg, Based on the size and the flaking technique, it appears to be an adze, but it also could be a pre-form knife or projectile that was never completed.

Hoes look similar too and were often made of poorer quality stone like that. I'm not saying that isn't a cool find, just that higher grades of chert were usually used for projectiles, which needed sharper edges, if available. Keith

I wouldn’t a thunk hoe just based on the size. Would have figure a hoe to be wider?? Could've been hafted to a handle and used as a head buster also...

There were likely larger hoes too. Here's some of the hoes from my collection, I posted before. They are all similar in size. Keith

Okay, okay, okay… you’re just showing off now! ![laugh laugh](/forum/images/graemlins/default/laugh.gif) Amazing how much more is out there. That's what makes artifact hunting exciting. Most lithic artifacts will likely never be found and there's still millions of great pieces out there, waiting for a hard rain and erosion to bring them to view. Keith

Thank you Sir. That’s as close as I can get to it myself.
Nate, didn’t mean to hijack your post. No problem, I got busy there a few days and didn't get back to check in, awesome to see all the post. Swamp you reckon that's the way it'll be when we move on to our next journey?
