Hey guys, I made some bacon bait last fall and didn’t use all of it. I have it stored right now in 5 gallon bucket with kitty litter. Should I have froze it. Got to thinking if it would spoil. Should I have preserved it a little with sodium Benzoate.

I refrigerated mine. Guessing most use it up fresh but I wanted to tweak mine later

Thank you sir. I tweaked my with mink glands and few more ingredients. Of course the bacon was cooked but didn’t know if it would spoil overtime.

I used to think bacon wouldn't spoil. Then a friend of mine's mother gave me some rotten bacon to use as snapping turtle bait, back in 1993. The turtles did not like it and the smell lasted on my hands for a couple of days. I didn't use it for fur bearers, because it was midsummer. I hope to never smell rotten bacon again.

I just figured the bacon would potentially turn rancid and i was attempting to avoid that. I haven’t found a recipe that I’ve been super excited about just yet but keep looking. Seems to get some interest but I was hoping for more and maybe have unrealistic expectations. Recall Seldom used it pretty regular—-maybe in early season or even pre baiting time frame but not 100% sure on that

Making bait out of bacon is a waste of good bacon.
