Oregon has some of the best trapping rules and region the union. Oregon is the last stronghold on the west coast and we aim to keep it that way.

Even our fairly liberal farmers markets are urging their members to not sign the petition. IMHO this ballot measure won't even get to the voters. So a lot of worry over nothing.

Maybe but the fact that it is even a possibility is reason enough to prohibit ballot initiatives nationwide.

Ballot initiatives can work both ways. Conservatives are gathering signatures in Maine to reverse legislation adopting the popular vote in presidential elections. I will most definitely sign that.

I kinda agree with you Warrior. Ballot measures may have been a good idea at one point but they seem to have become a big darn nuisance. And in Oregon the folks collecting the sigs are paid!

This isn't the first election cycle in Oregon that that particular initiative has been tried.

Why bother with paying a game department if you are going to make decisions via ballot?

Democratic Mob rule versus a Representative Republic would be the surest, fastest way
to the death of our country as envisioned by our founding fathers.

But ballot initiatives in the hands of an ignorant electorate are a slippery slope.

Popular vote in presidential elections is not good. The population centers in each state will control the vote.

I'd go further than that. The vote in the hands of an ignorant electorate is a slippery slope. Notice I wrote this ballot initiative is to REVERSE legislation that adopted the popular vote.

Yep, and most of the people pushing these ballot initiatives know it. While the originals can usually be passed with a simple majority (50%) they usually have a clause saying that they can't be overturned without at least a 60% majority, often a 2/3 majority. That way it is much harder for the electorate to overturn them if they actually wise up any after they see the results of their ignorant vote.
