Looking for a new garmin GPS. I want something I can take on my snowmobile thats easy to use. I have a garmin Montana, and it is not really easy to set up a route and set waypoints. Waterproof is an added plus. Anybody got one they can recommend?

TIA, Dean

Pretty happy with an inreach. Not only a GPS but allows texting to others. Bluetooth your phone to it.

Waterproof would be an absolute must as far as I am concerned. I really can't advise you, I use the same GPS I use to track my hounds. Only GPS I have ever used are those, (various models over the last ten years, as Garmin comes out with a new model they quit servicing the older ones) before that I just used a map and compass. I have never tried to "set up a route" on one other than just looking at it and eyeballing where to go either by roads or topo lines. Waypoints are easy to mark, except you have to be standing where you want the waypoint, you can't place one on the map anywhere you want it. I manage to get everything I wear soaked often enough I would personally never carry any electronics that aren't waterproof. I've even ruined one waterproof GPS by getting water inside it when the seals failed. And several waterproof radios over the the years.

I use a handlebar mount for my GPS on my fourwheeler, but when I tried it on my snowmobile years ago it did not work well, the cold killed the batteries in very short order. The new ones may have superior batteries but I always carry them in my shirtpocket.

Set up your holder with a thumb warmer tab. Learned that from Elder Oh-Snap.

That is a good idea, one of those, "why didn't I think of that?" ideas.
