Looking at redoing all my wolf gear and wondering what you all use for sizes. I am running MB750s and NO BS wolf Jr's with 12ft of #5 chain with springs midway and 4 wolf swivels. I have been attaching my homemade drags and normally just wrap them around a tree. Been scouting and am thinking about pounding some very large duckbill anchors where I am seeing sign so once season opens I can toss traps in and just attach them. Looking at these right now. Just trying to organize my line and make it as fast and efficient. Thanks for any information.

I would just match the quick link size to my chain size.

I run 1/4", which is a very common size of quick link, even if it isn't listed in the info you posted. It will fit through #5 chain, although tight and some links will take a little wiggling. 5/16" will not fit through #5 chain. Never had a problem with 1/4", it'll hold whatever steps in the trap without signs of stress in my experience. Jumper has told the story of having a large male wolf open up a 3/16" link one time, it was still there when he got there, but it had pulled the link open so that he was able to simply reach down and unhook the chain after dispatch.

I’m getting the same thing. Think I’ll go as big as I can as long as it fits through the chain. Bigger would be easier to fumble with while wearing gloves & -30

I use 1/4" for about everything. If you are going to use springs, might as well put them closer to the trap than midway on the chain. If the chain gets wrapped around stuff when you catch a wolf, it can render the spring out of the action pretty quickly.

Happened to me on my 2nd foothold fox. All wrapped up in the willows and the only functioning swivel was right at the trap.

Yep, 1/4"". And some #5 chain will need a little pry widening to get the threads through.

Just doing what I want now.

Also use 1/4". Have never had one fail that didn't just come unthreaded. Which I have had happen. On bodygrips and I recovered the critters. But as a result on foothold I actually put pliers or a little wrench on them and crank them tight. Still mostly just finger tighten on bodygrips.

Yes, I never thought they would come loose when finger tightened, but I caught a double on wolves one day and both had the nuts on the quick links backed off far enough to see daylight. One of them needed less than a turn to open it up enough to pull the chain link out of it. After that I've always tightened with a 10mm wrench or a pair of pliers, and never had a problem.

1/4” will hold any wolf. That is the size I run on all of my wolf and wolverine gear. As mentioned, finger tight is not quite enough, put a tool on it to tighten the quick link just a bit.

I use the large quick link -it is 3/16 with #3 twist link or #7 strait link chain - the nut is 9mm or 11/32 there a lil tight with the twist link and these other guys have more experience than me
