I bought Bobcat Urine from 2 different dealers at the FTA this past weekend. One was noticeably darker than the other. Is it because the Bobcats for one were fed more meat than the other? Or was it something else?

My guess is Most cat pee is artificial. Nobody is collecting cat pee anymore unless it's one or 2 cats just for personal use.
So to answer your question they just used different recipes
You can always test them on your dog or cat and see if there's any intrest

Ones fresher than the other. The lighter colored one is the freshest. We collected seven gallons this year just messing around. Cats need guts and fur in their diet or they stop producing urine regularly.

They make it in several different species too. Smells close to the human nose but doesn't get the same reaction from the animals as the real stuff

There is lots of artificial / man made material being sold that is a known fact of various kinds. With the decrease in raw material availability climbing every year it is a growing trend. I am glad I stocked up on necessities in my early years.

We have authentic cat urine and the other fur bearers, always have. We don't get alot but we had to cut back on selling gallons and increase pricing due to the low volume available from our producer. Color can vary depending upon the age. All urine will darken from age and sitting in a jug or container for months before it sells. Also if it hasn't been collected from a clean operation it will darken and change in odor over time.

Maybe.

Of all the artificial odors I'm familiar with in the trapping lure business....I would've never expected artificial bobcat urine.

But, after thinking about it, bobcat urine is probably the easiest one to counterfeit......using that artificial cat essense.

Believe they make artificial mink glands too. My guess is this why some older lures aren't as good as they use to. They get sold a time or two and the new maker finds it cheaper and more convenient to use the artificial stuff. I believe some makers will cut the real stuff with the artificial to extend there volume and they can also say the use real glands/urine.

So why are individuals selling high quality private stock fox and coyote urine but real cat urine is impossible to get and would be $100 for a half gallon? Do cats not urinate?

It's not an easy task. Unless your selling it privately, your going to get wholesale prices from the big suppliers and the price is no where near what they sell it for. Cats are cleaner to collect than coyotes. You have to be set up for it and keep things clean as possible.

A lot of the “high quality” fox and coyote urine out there isn’t as “high quality” as you think either.

I primarily use Reuswatt's and his is high quality no matter what you think.

Every bobcat I’ve ever checked has had a full bladder regardless of spraying at the set. And by full, I mean couldn’t get anymore in there if they wanted to.

So they are selling it but it's suppose to be " private stock"......????? What's private stock urine? Is different than regular urine? Sounds like sales gimmick to me. It's either real pee or it's not. And I've collected real pee and before that I don't think I'd bought any that was 100% the real stuff.
Canebrake how do you tell the real stuff from the cut or artificial stuff?
