Anyone use this method for animal disposition? What are the drawbacks?

You forget they’re in the freezer the morning the trash guy is scheduled to come.

It's the only way if you do a lot of trapping and dispatch.

When I first started many years ago and didn't have a freezer, I remember having a bag of skunks, female and kits, sitting in the yard for days in the summer heat. A vulture ripped the bag open, ate the kits and all but the rear end of the female. I knew right then I needed a freezer. Lol.

Another downside to freezing everything is when it gets full and everything is stuck together. I put everything but beavers in bags. So start with empty bags and fill them in the freezer. It helps but not perfect.

An alarm on freezer is a good idea too, even though I don't have one. A few years ago my freezer crapped out and when I discovered it, it was skunk soup.

I plan to drop them into contractor bags and when the bag fills up to the landfill I’ll go. I have one not too far away that takes carcasses.

Bag each job separately. Bags aren’t expensive, having them heavy, or opening up on you isn’t worth the risk, lol.

State guidelines require us to double bag them, but each state is probably different in regards to that.

Nothing smells worse than a rotting skunk In summer. That’s the only dead animal that brings me close to puking while picking up. People pay really well for the service though, lol.

I hear you on the double bag. I picked up some Demo bags at Home Depot. They are woven cloth bags. A little more expensive, but completely worth it.

Don't bother with freezing. I'm about a mile from my local transfer station. Bag and drop off.

The guys there know me for joking that they are where I go to hide the bodies.

Does anyone compost them? Most confined animal units are required to have a compost shed to dispose of the deados. Disposing of dispatches would work the same way......smaller scale.

Easy to vote your way into socialism, but impossible to vote your way out of it.

I was thinking about that when I dropped off the cardboard at the local recycle center and saw folks with bags of household waste. However, the pressure from the compactor would squeeze out some unwanted smells from a bag of skunks I'm sure.

I think they’re used to it. A landfill once stayed open late for us knowing we were bringing a deer in.

That would need to be hot composting to achieve temps high enough to kill pathogens. Much more input needed but a quicker process than standard garden organic composting.

The input and possible regulatory issues might make it infeasible for some of us.

Works for animal ag operations like broiler chickens due to a steady input of carcasses and litter.

Would enjoy hearing more on hot composting though if it can be done on a smaller scale.
